Job Title: Training Partner
Department: Field Department
Location: Remote; travel required
Reports To: Training Director, Training Team

Context:
Sierra Club is rooted in the belief that we are all interconnected. We remain dedicated to fighting for a healthy climate grounded in environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice—a future where everyone can enjoy a thriving planet and a meaningful relationship with nature. As the climate crisis and systemic racism continue to drive inequity, we are committed to pursuing bold, transformational solutions that recognize the links between our environment, our communities, and our collective future. With nearly 800 staff nationwide and 64 local chapters powered by thousands of volunteers, we work together toward change. Sierra Club is proud to be a unionized employer, with more than half of staff represented by three labor unions.

Scope:
This role supports the creation and implementation of training and learning programs within the Field Department and with organizing partners. It contributes to developing strong, strategic volunteer leaders capable of driving local, regional, and national strategies, securing campaign wins, and building lasting power across chapters and groups.

Job activities include but are not limited to:
• Volunteer and Staff Leadership Development: Assist in designing and delivering leadership development strategies that advance strategic goals, strengthen chapters and groups, and address organizational health needs. Identify structural, cultural, and resource improvements that support chapter success. Partner with stakeholders to assess learning needs and target audiences.
• Stakeholder Engagement and Internal Partnerships: Support engagement with key partners to shape training goals and programs. Build strong, accountable relationships with chapter staff, volunteer leaders, Outings, Campaigns, and the People Department.
• Project Management: Lead and support key Training Team projects using project management tools to clarify goals, timelines, roles, and decision-making while fostering leadership across the team.
• Team Leadership and Facilitation: Support and develop staff and volunteer leaders to meet shared training goals. Foster a healthy, inclusive team culture grounded in accountability and shared purpose.
• Training Design and Delivery: Lead and support the creation of learner-centered training programs aligned with Field Department priorities. Write, edit, and compile curriculum for online and in-person programs and support resource development through internal communication tools.
• Training for Trainers: Help design and deliver training to build the skills of staff and volunteers so they can scale training efforts. Support peer mentoring programs and coach volunteer leaders who serve as trainers.
• Training Design and Pedagogy: Create and deliver training based on experiential learning best practices. Train staff and volunteers in effective training design, facilitation, and conflict navigation.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Seasonal Activities: Workload may increase during project deadlines, staff absences, or high-volume training periods. Frequent evening and weekend work may be required.

Required skills, experience, and competencies:
• Equity Analysis and Practice: Awareness of personal identities and how they shape experiences. Understanding of how oppression affects systems and relationships. Ability to work effectively across differences.
• Leadership Development and/or Training Strategy: Experience identifying learning goals, designing training plans, and assessing outcomes. Skill in working with teams—especially volunteer and staff teams—to implement shared training strategies.
• Training and Curriculum Design: Ability to design and deliver experiential curriculum and to train others in curriculum development and facilitation.
• Technical and Online Training Delivery: Experience preparing training materials—including video, webinar content, presentations, and digital resources—for online learning.
• Training Program Assessment: Ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate learning programs. Experience defining learning metrics, tracking outcomes, and adjusting programming based on results.
• Team Leadership: Experience forming, leading, and coaching diverse staff and volunteer teams. Skilled at navigating conflict constructively.
• Commitment to Growth: Dedication to deepening understanding of systemic oppression and examining personal privilege and power.
• Positive and Supportive Approach: Sees challenges as opportunities for growth and brings a constructive, encouraging, and kind presence.

Preferred skills, experience, and competencies:
• Conflict Transformation: Ability to guide diverse groups through conflict with compassion and awareness of power dynamics, while maintaining personal regulation.
• Hybrid and Online Learning: Skilled at designing and delivering effective virtual or hybrid training programs; experience with multiple training platforms is a plus.
• Organizational Governance: Experience developing or delivering training on governance topics such as bylaws or board development.
• Virtual Teams: Experience working within and supporting remote teams.

Salary: $72,000–$82,000 annually
