Hi, I’m Avery, Founder and CEO of Bloom. We’re a workplace consultancy that supports founder-led, growing small to mid-sized companies that are bold enough to build strong people systems early. The organizations we partner with understand that creating inclusive, high-performing workplaces doesn’t happen by chance—it requires commitment and care. They just don’t need a full-time HR hire yet.
That’s where you come in.
This is a contract role (2–3 days per week) where you’ll serve as a fractional HR partner for one of our clients. You’ll co-create, design, and implement people systems that form the foundation for thriving, high-performing cultures. You’ll be able to focus on meaningful, strategic work while still handling day-to-day HR needs, with the support of the broader Bloom collective.
Who we are
Bloom isn’t a typical HR consultancy. We work with founder-led, purpose-driven companies that made the smart decision to prioritize their people early. Most of our clients are small to mid-sized businesses (about 10–150 employees) that know building an intentional, inclusive culture takes real effort.
They care deeply about creating strong, scalable people systems that reflect their values, but they’re not ready for a full-time HR hire. What they need is an expert partner who can help them build it right the first time.
That’s where we come in
We embed as fractional HR and DEI partners, offering leadership coaching, HR advisory, recruitment support, and hands-on work to build inclusive policies, systems, and processes. Whether you’re supporting a company’s first hire, developing progressive people policies, or guiding a founder through a difficult team issue, you’ll be working alongside them to create workplaces that are high-performing and people-first. We don’t believe in quick fixes or corporate jargon—we believe in co-creating better workplaces with the people bold enough to build differently.
About the role
We’re seeking a Senior Talent & HR Advisor to join our team on a contract basis (2–3 days per week). The role is part of an ongoing client partnership with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a forward-thinking organization. This is a remote-first position for candidates in Ontario, Canada, with occasional on-site client visits as needed.
Do you have experience in HR and a passion for shaping workplace culture and driving talent strategy? We’d love to hear from you.
The opportunity (you’ll make a big impact)
– Lead recruitment: Full-cycle hiring for client roles with an emphasis on inclusive candidate experiences (this will be a priority in the first six months).
– Co-build people systems: Help design and implement HR policies, frameworks, and processes aligned with modern, human-first workplaces.
– Manage HR strategy: Advise leaders on hiring roadmaps, culture design, and navigating complex team dynamics.
– Handle day-to-day HR work: Including onboarding, employee relations, policy updates, and more—both strategy and execution are part of the job.
– Coach leaders: Support founders and managers in becoming thoughtful people leaders.
– Advise on people operations: Build foundations for sustainable growth, including compensation frameworks and performance management systems.
– Switch contexts smoothly: No two days are the same; you’ll frequently move between strategic guidance and hands-on execution.
What you bring to the role
– You’ve been the only HR professional at a growing company and successfully worked through ambiguity.
– You enjoy context switching and can pivot quickly while staying grounded.
– You’re passionate about supporting owners of small to mid-sized businesses and know your work shapes their culture.
– You’re proactive but not prescriptive—you ask questions to fully understand each client’s unique needs.
– You work with integrity, follow through consistently, and complete tasks on time.
– You thrive in autonomy while also enjoying collaboration with a values-aligned team.
– You’re open to occasional on-site meetings but value flexible, remote-first work.
– You’re an optimistic, practical thinker about the future of work, with experience implementing modern HR systems that challenge outdated practices.
– You’re discreet, trustworthy, and understand the importance of confidentiality.
– You lead with empathy and humanity—because inclusion is a way of working, not a checklist.
– You enjoy balancing big-picture strategy with getting things done.
What we’re looking for
– Experience building and executing HR strategies in small to mid-sized companies.
– Comfort acting as the primary HR partner while using support from the collective.
– Strong recruiting skills with a human-first, inclusive approach.
– Ability to coach leaders and navigate sensitive conversations with care.
– A strategic mindset with strong problem-solving and action orientation.
– Passion for inclusive workplace design and progressive people practices.
– High trust, high integrity, and discretion.
Compensation, location, and hours
– $40–$50 per hour. You’ll join Bloom through your corporation or as an independent contractor.
– 100% remote. We encourage you to work where you can do your best work. Since you’ll meet with clients often, we expect you to work from a private, secure, quiet space without distractions.
– This role’s clients are in the Eastern Standard Time zone, so you must work 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.

More about us: Fractional work, full support
– You’ll be the face of HR for your client, but you’ll never be on your own. At Bloom, we work fractionally as a collective—your fellow advisors will support you with resources, troubleshooting, and shared learning.
– You’ll have input on which clients you support and how we work with them. We don’t take on just anyone—values alignment is essential for both you and for us.
– Fractional work isn’t “less.” It’s intentional. It’s for people who want meaningful work, variety, and flexibility without being tied to one desk 40+ hours a week. It requires agility, autonomy, and a collaborative approach.
Compensation transparency
At Bloom, compensation is discussed openly and honestly. Early in the process, we’ll confirm that you’re comfortable with a salary range within the posted hourly rate. As you learn more about the role and complete compensation details, we invite you to share if your expectations change. We also plan three check-ins during the process to ensure alignment, so that by the time we reach an offer, it feels clear, fair, and mutual.
Our use of AI in hiring
We believe transparency matters, especially as technology evolves. At Bloom, we may use AI as a supportive tool when creating role descriptions, interview questions, take-home assignments, and interview guides, where appropriate, to improve clarity, consistency, and accessibility. However, we do not use AI to source, assess, screen, or interview candidates. Every application and interview is handled by humans, and hiring decisions are made by people—not automated systems. Human judgment, care, and accountability are central to how we hire.
Fair selection process
We care deeply about providing all applicants with a fair and consistent selection process. While we’d like to connect with every candidate individually, we’re not able to accommodate one-on-one conversations before the interview stage. Our structured approach helps reduce bias and ensures we select facilitators based on skills, experience, and alignment with our mission.
Accessibility and accommodations
Bloom is committed to equity and inclusion in hiring. If you’re a person with a disability and need accommodations during the application process, please email erica@buildwithbloom.com—we’ll work with you to meet your needs at every stage. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including those from historically marginalized communities.
Thanks for considering Bloom
We know there are many great opportunities, and we appreciate you considering Bloom in your journey.
