The ELA Curriculum Writer is an essential member of a team where curriculum and technology intersect. This role includes partnering with others to develop new content, revising and editing existing units and lessons, and supporting content-focused initiatives and cross-team projects.

### Roles and Responsibilities
– **Develop high-quality curriculum and learning materials**
– Plan and write demanding academic content aligned to CommonLit’s ELA standards and design.
– Choose texts and resources that reflect CommonLit’s expectations for rigor, relevance, and instructional value.
– Participate in peer reviews using CommonLit’s standards-alignment framework and design principles.
– Contribute learning content across curriculum, supplemental, and library offerings, as well as cross-functional organizational efforts.

– **Oversee content creation and manage project work**
– Create high-quality academic content that matches the style and rigor of CommonLit’s ELA materials.
– Curate rigorous, high-quality texts and resources.
– Run peer reviews for all components, aligned to both standards and CommonLit’s broader design.
– Complete learning content development tasks across multiple CommonLit curriculum, supplemental, and library projects, and support related initiatives as needed.
– Coordinate workflows across several simultaneous projects with strong attention to detail and a problem-solving orientation.
– Actively seek feedback and apply it to continually improve content quality.
– Produce multiple drafts and incorporate input from different sources.
– Support ongoing professional growth through reflection, research, and continuous learning.

– **Collaborate effectively across teams and the organization**
– Meet development deadlines through teamwork, working with Academic teams (Curriculum, Supplemental, Assessment, and PD) and other groups such as Product.
– Create learning content in multiple formats, including print and digital.
– Communicate clearly in ways that support others’ work.

### Qualifications
– At least 5 completed years of teaching
– Bachelor’s degree in English, history, or another humanities discipline
– Personal or professional experience in communities of color
– Strong reading, writing, editing, and analytical abilities, with careful attention to detail
– Thorough knowledge of ELA college- and career-readiness standards
– Proven understanding of best practices in ELA instruction
– Deep awareness of the challenges teachers and students face
– Humility and a growth mindset, including valuing critical feedback

**Preferred Qualifications:**
– Experience writing ELA curriculum
– Experience supporting the implementation of curriculum and technology across a school or district
– Success working on collaborative, cross-functional teams
– Familiarity with current research and trends in ELA instruction
– Familiarity with contemporary, diverse literature

### Physical & Additional Requirements
– This role requires extended periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer
– Must be located in the United States
– Must be available to work 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

### Salary & Benefits
– **Salary:** $80,000–$100,000, based on experience
