The ELA Curriculum Writer plays a key role on a team at the intersection of curriculum and technology. The position involves collaborating with others to create new content, revising and editing existing units and lessons, and supporting content-related initiatives and cross-team projects.

### Roles and Responsibilities
– **Create high-quality curriculum and learning materials**
– Plan and write rigorous academic content aligned to CommonLit’s ELA standards and design.
– Select texts and resources that meet CommonLit’s expectations for rigor, relevance, and instructional value.
– Participate in peer reviews using CommonLit’s standards-alignment lens and design principles.
– Contribute to learning content across curriculum, supplemental, and library offerings, as well as cross-functional organizational projects.

– **Manage content development and project execution**
– Plan and produce high-quality academic content that meets the style and rigor of CommonLit’s ELA materials.
– Curate rigorous, high-quality texts and resources.
– Conduct peer reviews across all components, aligned to standards and overall CommonLit design.
– Complete learning content development tasks across multiple CommonLit curriculum, supplemental, and library projects, and support related initiatives as needed.
– Coordinate workflow across several concurrent projects with strong attention to detail and a solutions-focused mindset.
– Actively seek and apply feedback to continuously improve content quality.
– Produce multiple drafts and incorporate input from different sources.
– Support personal growth through reflection, research, and ongoing learning.

– **Collaborate effectively across teams and the organization**
– Meet development deadlines through teamwork, including with Academic teams (Curriculum, Supplemental, Assessment, and PD) and other groups such as Product.
– Develop learning content across multiple formats, including print and digital.
– Communicate clearly and in a way that supports others’ workflow.

### Qualifications
– 5+ completed years of teaching
– Bachelor’s degree in English, history, or another humanities field
– Lived experience or work experience in communities of color
– Strong reading, writing, editing, and analytical skills, with close attention to detail
– In-depth knowledge of college- and career-readiness standards in ELA
– Demonstrated understanding of best practices in ELA instruction
– Deep understanding of the challenges teachers and students face
– Humility and a growth mindset, including valuing critical feedback

**Preferred Qualifications:**
– Experience writing ELA curriculum
– Experience supporting the rollout of curriculum and technology across a school or district
– Experience working successfully on collaborative, cross-functional teams
– Familiarity with current research and trends in ELA instruction
– Familiarity with contemporary, diverse literature

### Physical & Additional Requirements
– This role requires long periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer
– Must be based in the United States
– Must be available to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

### Salary & Benefits
– **Salary:** $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience
