We are seeking a Communications Specialist to join our expanding Communications team. In this role, reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, you will help shape and deliver our company’s story both inside and outside the organization. You will take the lead in creating and implementing communication strategies that inform and engage employees while ensuring our external messaging supports BenchSci’s mission and objectives.

You are a PR expert with a journalist’s mindset, skilled at developing compelling narratives that connect with diverse audiences. Your strong writing abilities and talent for simplifying complex scientific and technical information will be essential as you build and execute earned and owned media strategies that boost awareness, affinity, and engagement. You will work cross-functionally to strengthen BenchSci’s reputation and maintain clear, consistent messaging. You Will:
External Communications:
• Create and carry out external communication plans that strengthen BenchSci’s visibility and thought leadership.
• Write engaging press releases, blog articles, social content, and other materials highlighting achievements, partnerships, and milestones.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists and key opinion leaders.
• Develop and manage media lists and playbooks, respond to media inquiries, track industry news, and identify thought leadership opportunities.
• Oversee the company’s website and social media channels.
• Research and draft speaking proposals and award submissions.

Internal Communications:
• Develop and execute strategies that keep employees informed, aligned, and engaged with BenchSci’s mission and company goals.
• Curate content for internal audiences and communication channels.
• Create materials for company-wide events that support transparency and shared purpose.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Work closely with teams across the company—including Talent, the Office of the CEO, Product Marketing, and others—to ensure unified messaging.
• Provide communication support to different departments to maintain a cohesive approach.

Special Projects:
• Contribute to high-priority projects that need support to move forward successfully.
• Assist in planning and executing the SAB+ Fellows Summit.
• Help manage and update BenchSci’s website so it remains accurate and aligned with our brand.
• Support preparation of Go-To-Market Town Hall presentations.
• Assist with brand marketing initiatives to ensure consistent messaging.

You Have:
• 3–5 years of communications experience, ideally in SaaS, startups, or biotech.
• Excellent writing ability and skill in explaining complex technical topics; experience with AI is a bonus.
• Experience analyzing communication metrics and demonstrating ROI.
• A strong track record of collaboration across teams and relationship-building with media.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
• Initiative and independence in driving communication efforts, with a proactive, forward-thinking mindset.
• A desire to grow, learn, and continuously improve.
• Passion for science and making a positive impact.
• Bonus: deep knowledge of the life sciences industry and experience communicating complex scientific topics to varied audiences.
