SendOwl (https://sendowl.com) is seeking a full-time tech writer to create public-facing articles and brief informational snippets for our help center (https://help.sendowl.com/help) and for use within our dashboard. Your writing will help creators and merchants understand how to use SendOwl features, while also sharing best practices across our applications.

Self-service is at the core of our support strategy. If a reader can’t find an answer, doesn’t understand how something works, or is otherwise confused, then our self-service approach hasn’t succeeded. In other words: why did the reader feel the need to submit a ticket? Was the right information missing, provided at the wrong time, or placed in the wrong location?

Each ticket is also a chance to strengthen our localized, contextual info-snippets and to improve our longer, step-by-step articles.

What is a tech writer?

In our view, a tech writer takes a potentially complex process and, through strong writing supported by screenshots and gifs, produces a friendly, easy-to-understand document that speaks directly to the reader.

A tech writer is the reader’s advocate. You should understand what the reader is likely feeling when they land on the page—frustrated, motivated, concerned, or something else.

The content you create leads them toward resolving their question or issue. It answers their curiosity. It encourages them to think, “I can do this!” And after they’ve done it, they’ll want more.

This is where you come in.

Working closely with our User Ops lead and Support lead, you will play a central role in our content creation process that helps creators and merchants sell their digital content anywhere online.

Although you’ll collaborate with others and receive full support, you’ll primarily work independently. You’ll be trusted, respected, and supported by an outstanding team.

You will help create contextual, current, and accurate content that appears across all touch points of the SendOwl product and app. Whether it’s helping creators and merchants productize their content or helping end buyers access what they’ve purchased, SendOwl will be there to guide them.

You will become very familiar with the SendOwl product across all our apps and propose improvements and new ideas for how we provide guidance and support.

What you need to have / need to be.

You need at least 5 years of direct experience creating public-facing, technical documentation (with 4 or 5 of those years within the last 5 or 6 years).

You should have experience working in small teams. One great advantage of small teams is that you’re always part of the solution and part of the results.

You must be curious—what I call a nerd. If you don’t know what an API is, go find out.

You must be based in North America and able to work standard US business hours (if you’re not based in North America, we won’t be able to hire you).

You should have exceptional writing skills. You should also be able to advocate for yourself and for your readers. We’re a small team, and we want your input.

Working fully remote can be challenging, but it can also be freeing. Want to work outdoors? Do it. Want a quick chat? Reach out to the team. Independence doesn’t mean working alone.

We have a lot going on, and we take personal responsibility for our share of the workload. You’ll need to do the same.

What we can offer:

Competitive compensation.

Unlimited PTO/sick days. This isn’t just a written policy—we want you to take vacations. Just make sure to coordinate with the team first.

A reasonable work/life balance. We generally work about 8 hours per day, giving you time to do what you love outside of work, so you return the next day refreshed and effective. Sometimes we get caught up in the energy of launching a new feature, but a culture of constant long hours helps no one.

IMPORTANT NOTE: please apply by emailing the address below with the subject line “Tech Writer” to ensure we receive your application. Thank you.
