Established in 2008, the Global Research & Analysis Team (GReAT) is an integral part of Kaspersky Lab’s R&D department, and leads the company’s anti-malware research and innovation. The team’s security analysts are based around the world, each contributing a unique set of skills and expertise to the research and design of solutions to combat increasingly complex malware code. Today, GReAT comprises 40 experts working in Europe, Russia, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. Costin G. Raiu has led the team since 2010.

GReAT undertakes incident response for the company’s customers during malware-related incidents. Other key departmental responsibilities include thought leadership in threat intelligence, driving and executing initiatives focused on improving malware detection accuracy rates and efficiency, and supporting key customer accounts with malware intelligence expertise.

Security Researcher is a part of U.S. Based part of GReAT Team.

Main responsibilities:

• Perform cutting edge analysis of Android malware. • Research the mobile threat landscape to enhance Kaspersky’s detection engine for mobile malware. • Automate the collection and storage of mobile malware samples. • Enhance Kaspersky Lab’s mobile malware intelligence. • Understand the strengths and weaknesses of security related to mobile apps, devices and operating systems. • Perform research and threat models for the people-to-machine and machine-to-machine interactions (“Internet of Things”). • Utilize hacking and pen testing techniques to target mobile apps and Web services, and test their security. • Examine transmitted and stored data for personally identifiable information (PII) and/or mobile application artifacts. • Present specific intelligence on the data risk profile of applications when in actual use. • Identify key strategies for remediation of vulnerabilities. • Create technically sound and actionable reports for customers. • Continuously monitor the state of the mobile security industry with an eye towards innovation. • Work with Kaspersky Lab’s R&D team to assure continuous upgrades to existing offerings and the development of new cutting edge mobile security solutions. • Serve as an thought-leader and spokesperson for mobile malware and IoT-related incidents

Propose ideas aimed at improving department performance, assume responsibility for achieving group goals

• Participate in the development of the unit’s recommended practices and standards, assume responsibility for accomplishing group goals • Take an active part in the formation of requirements for the internal infrastructure of Kaspersky Lab • Suggest ideas to be implemented in company’s products • Write instructions and documentation on various topics • Content creation; analyze and describe malicious programs (malware) • Present about IT security to wide audiences (customers, internal sales, etc) • Monitor, analyze and understand malware trends at local, regional and global level (country, region, world) • Prototype development; imagine and develop prototypes or new technologies • Testing newly released products and technologies from Kaspersky and competitors

• Give interviews at the regional (Americas, Europe, EEMEA, APAC) level • Keep in touch with other security researchers • Participate in industry recognized security groups • Work with CERTs, non profit security industry groups • Assist Law Enforcement • Keep in touch with people working in other divisions of Kaspersky Lab
