About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced editor who can help us produce our daily D. C. newsletter, Principals, which features original reporting from our politics team while tracking and curating the biggest political stories across all news outlets. You will help copy edit and prepare stories, features, and photos for the newsletter in the evening to hand off to the morning team. In addition, you will monitor the news, look for relevant stories, and contribute some writing of your own as needed. In addition to editing skills, we need someone who is passionate about White House, Congress, campaign, and policy coverage, has a deep knowledge of the political media landscape, can operate independently, and has strong news judgment.

This is a part-time role, up to 20 hours a week, Sunday-Thursday, and can be remote. Shifts would be from early to late evening.

Responsibilities

  • Copy editing, photo gathering, and production work

  • Writing for daily features in Semafor’s voice

  • Tracking news coverage, aggregating material, and monitoring storylines relevant to our readership

Things We’re Looking For

  • At least three years of relevant reporting/editing experience

  • A strong intuitive sense of the daily news cycle and its rhythms

  • Familiarity with the main Washington-based political newsletters

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to our unique style, voice, and format

Compensation: $40-$45 USD / hour
