At Instructure, we believe people have the power to grow and succeed throughout their lives. We aim to amplify that power by building intuitive products that make learning and personal development easier, strengthen meaningful connections, and motivate people to go further in their education and careers. We do this by empowering smart, creative, passionate people with the opportunities to create great things.
That’s where you come in.
Instructure is looking for a collaborative and experienced Senior Product Manager to lead our shared components and cross-product initiatives across the business. You will drive cross-product programs linked to core services that govern customer configuration, cross-account sharing through trusts and consortiums, security initiatives, and more.
In this highly collaborative role, you will own product roadmaps and work closely with other product managers, engineering teams, UX/UI designers, customers, legal counsel, and compliance officers.
You will serve as a strategic partner to other product development teams—understanding their needs and enabling them with technical services and best practices for platform development strategy. In short, you can deliver alongside an aligned engineering team while embracing the challenge of achieving success through collaboration.
**What you’ll do:**
– **Product Strategy & Roadmap:** Define and own the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for our cross-product platform services capabilities and features, aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements, developed in partnership with internal stakeholders.
– **Shared Services Management:** Work with internal engineering teams to identify, prioritize, and define reusable components, libraries, and patterns that improve consistency, efficiency, and compliance across our products.
– **Collaboration & Communication:** Build strong relationships and communicate the product vision, roadmap, and progress to stakeholders across engineering, design, legal, compliance, and executive teams, actively seeking and incorporating feedback.
– **Internal Customer Engagement:** Understand the needs and challenges of internal development teams related to application development, use those insights to shape the roadmap, and advocate for best practices to define and drive success through adoption.
– **Requirements Definition:** Convert business and compliance needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with engineering and design partners.
– **Product Lifecycle Management:** Lead the product lifecycle from ideation through launch, iteration, and retirement, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to compliance standards.
– **Performance Monitoring:** Define and track key metrics to measure adoption, performance, and impact of front-end shared services and compliance initiatives, and share insights to drive ongoing improvement.
– **Cross-Functional Leadership:** Lead and motivate cross-functional teams, creating a collaborative, results-focused environment grounded in partnership and shared ownership.
– **Staying Informed:** Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to proactively adjust product strategy and share relevant insights with internal teams.
**What you will need to know/have:**
– A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Product Management, or a related field.
– **4+ years of experience in product management or technical product management, ideally with strong focus on platform services and components.**
– Strong knowledge of front-end and back-end development principles, frameworks, and best practices.
– **Proven experience building and managing shared component libraries or platform solutions, with a history of successful collaboration with software engineering teams.**
– Knowledge of and experience with user management and permissions in complex organizational structures, including cross-org trusts or consortiums is a plus.
– Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence cross-functional teams, especially engineering and design.
– Ability to translate complex technical and legal requirements into clear, concise product specifications that align internal partners.
– Experience working in Agile environments with an emphasis on collaboration and iterative development.
