At Instructure, we believe in the power of people to grow and succeed throughout their lives. Our mission is to amplify that power by building intuitive products that make learning and personal development simpler, strengthen meaningful relationships, and encourage people to go further in their education and careers. We do this by giving smart, creative, passionate people the chance to create great things.
That’s where you come in.
Instructure is looking for a collaborative, experienced Senior Product Manager to lead our shared components and cross-product initiatives across the business. You will manage cross-product programs connected to core services that guide customer configuration, enable cross-account sharing through trusts and consortiums, drive security initiatives, and more.
In this highly collaborative role, you will own product roadmaps and work closely with other product managers, engineering teams, UX/UI designers, customers, legal counsel, and compliance officers.
You will serve as a strategic partner to other product teams—understanding their needs and empowering them with technical services and platform development best practices. In short, you enjoy delivering alongside a well-aligned engineering team while also embracing the challenge of achieving results through strong collaboration.
What you’ll do:
– Product Strategy & Roadmap: Define and own the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for our cross-product platform services capabilities and features, aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements, in close partnership with internal stakeholders.
– Shared Services Management: Work with internal engineering teams to identify, prioritize, and define reusable components, libraries, and patterns that support consistency, efficiency, and compliance across our products, and partner closely in their development workflows.
– Collaboration & Communication: Build strong relationships and clearly communicate the product vision, roadmap, and progress to stakeholders across engineering, design, legal, compliance, and executive teams. Actively seek feedback and incorporate it into product development.
– Internal Customer Engagement: Understand internal development teams’ challenges and needs related to application development, then translate those insights into the roadmap. Use strong relationships to promote best practices and define success through adoption.
– Requirements Definition: Convert business and compliance requirements into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications, ensuring alignment with engineering and design partners.
– Product Lifecycle Management: Lead the full product lifecycle—from idea to launch, iteration, and eventual retirement—ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to compliance standards through ongoing communication and collaboration.
– Performance Monitoring: Define and track key metrics to measure adoption, performance, and impact of our front-end shared services and compliance initiatives, sharing insights with stakeholders to drive improvements.
– Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead and motivate cross-functional teams, creating a collaborative, results-driven environment with shared ownership.
– Staying Informed: Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to proactively refine product strategy and share relevant insights internally.
What you will need to know/have:
– A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Product Management, or a related field.
– 4+ years of product management or technical product management experience, ideally with substantial focus on platform services and components.
– Strong knowledge of front-end and back-end development principles, frameworks, and best practices.
– Proven experience creating and managing shared component libraries or platform solutions, with a track record of successful collaboration with software engineering teams.
– Experience with user management and permissions in complex organizational structures (including cross-org trusts or consortiums) is a plus.
– Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and influence cross-functional teams, especially engineering and design.
– Ability to translate complex technical and legal requirements into clear, concise product specifications that internal teams can align around.
– Experience working in an Agile environment that emphasizes collaboration and iterative development.
