The Director of Real Green Software Engineering leads all software engineering activities for one of our flagship products in the Field Service Mgmt (FSM) Product Line that serves Lawn and Landscape customers. In this highly-visible role, you will oversee all aspects of our software engineering process, from architecture, systems design, development, test and deployment. You will report to the VP of Engineering for the FSM Product Line.

We are looking for a collaborative leader with great communications skills to understand our people, the business, the technologies we employ, the customer needs/demands and our collaborative, transparent WorkWave culture. The engineering director will use that understanding to help develop our people, to identify and successfully implement improvements in our engineering processes, tools and architecture, to enable us to deliver on our key initiatives. Although you will not be coding, as an engineering leader we will expect that you know the craft inside and out and still carry an engineer’s passion for designing and delivering great software solutions for our customers and establishing processes and metrics that improve our efficiency and quality.

You will be leading a number of functional development teams with Technical Leads responsible for Product Development, externally-facing API development, Sustaining, Tier 3 Support, Technology Evolution, and large-scale projects for key customers. Quality Engineering and Dev and Tech Ops are matrixed organizations in WorkWave – those functions are embedded with the product development teams and you are ultimately responsible for the overall deliverables.

Clearly and succinctly communicate the priorities and plans to the team, the customers (as necessary), and the senior leadership team
Communications with other organizations within WorkWave is paramount, including Support, Success, and Product Management. You are expected to represent the engineering team with these orgs, and in turn to translate their needs to Engineering
Work closely with Product Managers and Product Owners in developing a strategy and roadmap to provide compelling capabilities that helps us succeed in the marketplace
Lead while working alongside senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development
At the same time, work with senior engineers to develop plans to address technical debt and to modernize the software architecture and infrastructure
Career management and development of the entire team
Devising and reporting on metrics to measure our development processes

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Requires 15+ years of experience in software development and management (at least 5 years managing technical teams)
Proven experience delivering large scale production software, preferably in a SaaS delivery model
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong technical background in web and mobile applications and services, Cloud, SQL, CI/CD
Experience in communicating with customers a must
Strong business and technical vision
A deep mastery of agile/lean software development processes and delivering on time
Payment processing background desirable
Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
Exceptional ability to self-motivate and direct
Superior analytical, evaluative and problem-solving skills
Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Entrepreneurial personality strong sense of urgency
Enthusiasm and ability to mentor less experienced team members
Bachelor degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
