Life as a Data Scientist at City Electrical Factors:
As a Data Scientist in City IT, you will be central to supporting data-driven decisions, influencing commercial strategies, and improving operational performance.

You’ll collaborate across teams, guide stakeholders, and use advanced machine learning techniques to solve real business problems. You’ll analyse large datasets, develop sophisticated models, and turn complex results into clear and actionable insights.

Your Objectives:
• Work with business stakeholders to demonstrate the value of data-led decision-making.
• Develop and deploy machine learning models that address key challenges and enhance operational performance.
• Communicate technical insights in a clear and accessible manner for non-technical audiences.
• Use data science to propose and implement innovative solutions that generate measurable commercial benefits.
• Write high-quality Python code and contribute to shared tools used across the data science and analytics teams.

Key Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience in a data science role, including model development and business optimisation.
• Strong ability to design and implement algorithms and data structures in Python for data science applications.
• Solid understanding of modern software engineering practices, such as data management, version control, reproducibility, and model interpretability.
• Experience using visualisation tools like Power BI or Tableau and presenting insights through compelling data storytelling.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical groups.

Beneficial Skills and Experience:
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Physics, Econometrics, or Statistics.
• Proven ability to solve problems using machine learning, either academically or commercially.
• Strong understanding of probability, statistical significance, hypothesis testing, and regression methods.
• Experience with cloud-based data solutions.
• Knowledge of common algorithms and machine learning frameworks.
• Proficiency in SQL, including building end-to-end data pipelines and integrating data from various sources.

Location:
• This role is primarily remote, but you must be able to travel to Durham and other UK sites when necessary.
