Write Code Learn From The Best Change The World

last updated July 26, 2021 6:06 UTC

If you want to learn and apply a broad range of technologies while helping the world’s poorest people avoid hunger and deadly diseases, then this unique opportunity may be for you. Through partnerships with organizations like UNICEF, Literacy Bridge uses technology to help people in some of the world’s most remote villages, often without electricity, learn to grow more food and stay healthy. We do this today for 175,000 people; with your help, we will reach millions more.

You will be Literacy Bridge’s first full-time software engineer, working in a startup-like environment with the mentorship of volunteer senior engineers from places like Twitter, BMW, Zillow, Groupon, Tableau Software, and the Apache Software Foundation. You will work on a broad range of projects such as our:

  • Java-based audio content management system to allow people around the world to contribute local-language audio recordings of health and agriculture knowledge

  • Java-based usage statistics data gathering system integrated with visual data analysis and reporting

  • C-based firmware of our Talking Book audio computer, a battery-operated device with an innovative audio-based interface and the ability to conduct and track quizzes on knowledge retention

You would also have the opportunity to travel to Ghana to meet with our users, partners, and local staff.
