About the Role
We’re seeking a Web Development Engineer to join the team responsible for building Highspot’s public-facing web properties. In this role, you will work on https://www.highspot.com—our marketing site that builds brand awareness and drives demand—and on the Highspot Community website, a full-featured customer platform where thousands of users attend events, earn certifications, join forums, and connect with peers. The Community platform is a large-scale WordPress application with 20+ third-party integrations and major feature areas including events, learning, gamification, real-time chat, and more. You’ll collaborate closely with marketing, design, and cross-functional partners to create and maintain engaging, high-performing digital experiences that strengthen customer relationships and accelerate community growth.

Responsibilities
– Build and maintain features: Extend functionality across events, learning, forums, gamification, and other areas using strong PHP and JavaScript expertise.
– Work with third-party integrations: Help develop and maintain connections to services such as Salesforce, Stripe, SendGrid, Marketo, and others that support key workflows.
– Develop frontend components and templates: Create and improve responsive, accessible UI using the WordPress block editor, Bootstrap 5, SCSS, ACF Pro fields, and WPBakery elements, turning designs into polished experiences.
– Optimize for performance and SEO: Track and improve page speed, query performance, and search visibility.
– Ensure accessibility: Build in line with WCAG standards and promote inclusive design across every page and component the team delivers.
– Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Marketing and Design to define scope, estimate work, and deliver web projects aligned with business objectives.
– Maintain quality and reliability: Write clean, well-tested code; participate in code reviews; and contribute to coding standards, documentation, and developer tools that help the team work more effectively.

Required Qualifications
– 5+ years of professional web development experience, with strong skills in both frontend and backend development.
– Deep WordPress and PHP expertise: You’ve taken WordPress beyond basic use, architected solutions involving complex content relationships, and integrated with external systems. You’re comfortable with the WordPress hook system and use architectural approaches that keep a large codebase maintainable as it grows.
– JavaScript and React: Strong ES6+ JavaScript skills and hands-on React experience, with the ability to build interactive, data-driven interfaces.
– Strong CSS and visual execution: You can translate design mockups into pixel-accurate, responsive, accessible markup.
– Third-party API integration experience: You’ve connected web applications to external services via REST APIs; experience with payments, CRMs, email platforms, or real-time messaging is a plus.
– Performance and accessibility mindset: You know how to identify and fix rendering bottlenecks, optimize database queries, and build to WCAG compliance as a standard.
– Collaboration and communication: You work effectively with designers, marketers, program managers, and non-technical stakeholders. You can scope work, explain trade-offs, and advocate for engineering excellence.
– Build tooling experience: Familiarity with Webpack, npm scripts, and modern frontend build pipelines.
