We’re looking for a highly motivated and qualified accountant to join the growing Finance team at Octopus Energy Services. This position sits between finance and supply chain, giving you responsibility for cost of sales, inventory management, and their impact on our reporting. Reporting to the Supply Chain Finance Business Partner, you’ll work closely with both Finance and Supply Chain teams, handling day‑to‑day financial operations while contributing fresh ideas to improve processes and address challenges.

We’re a fast-moving, constantly evolving company, and we need someone eager to dig into the details, get involved hands-on, and grow quickly. If you’re after a typical back-office accounting job, this isn’t it. This role lets you collaborate across the business and directly influence process improvements, strategic opportunities, and commercial risk.

What you’ll do:
• Month-end responsibilities: Prepare monthly divisional and consolidated management accounts for Supply Chain, including helping calculate and review monthly Cost of Sales and ensuring accurate cost allocation for installed items.
• Inventory ownership: Manage all inventory-related activity—purchases, allocations, returns, and write-offs—ensuring proper reflection in the general ledger.
• Variance and valuation analysis: Reconcile stock counts with inventory records, investigate and resolve quantity and value differences, and support periodic valuation reviews, including assessments for obsolescence and net realisable value.
• Cross-functional business partnering: Work with operational and finance teams to review financial results, present clear variance analysis, maintain thorough documentation, and prepare corrective journals when required.
• Forward-looking analysis: Contribute to monthly reforecasting, annual budgeting, and the development of strong KPI tracking models.
• Process improvement: Review existing finance processes and help design and implement continuous improvements that enhance financial control.
• Financial control and audit support: Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, lead the preparation of complex year-end reconciliations and audit requests, and act as the main point of contact for inventory, cost of sales, and supply chain queries during audits.

What you’ll need:
• Professional qualification as a fully or recently qualified accountant (ICAS, ICAEW/ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or a recognised foreign equivalent).
• 2–3+ years of relevant experience in cost accounting, commercial finance with inventory or cost of sales exposure, or a similar analytical or accounting role.
• Strong experience working in a business with physical inventory, such as retail, manufacturing, or hardware-based services.
• Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis and financial modelling; experience with financial systems (especially NetSuite) is a strong plus.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to confidently and commercially present financial information to finance and operational stakeholders.
• A proactive, self-driven mindset, with strong attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to work independently.

Why you’ll love working here:
