Invitae’s Cloud Team needs help to achieve our mission to create and run the systems upon which the rest of Invitae is built. The platform we maintain and advance provides self-service tooling, automation, and application deployment technology to support Invitae’s efforts to expand genetic services. This team leads high-risk/high-impact projects and engages in internal and external collaborations, regularly partners with our executive team.

This position is on the Invitae Cloud “Core” Team, who is responsible for the foundational aspects of the Cloud Platform such as GitOps, Kubernetes infrastructure, and API machinery. The Core team partners closely with the “Edge” team who is responsible for our CLI, CICD factory, feature flag capabilities, and developer portal.

As a Software Engineer on the Invitae Cloud team, you will build new platform capabilities, support our existing customers, and help set the direction for cloud native technologies at Invitae. Engineers on our platform team come from a variety of backgrounds; including software engineering, DevOps, and site reliability. We are looking for engineers who bias towards automation and systems design with a dash of production support.

What you will do:

Use cutting edge, cloud-native, technologies like Kubernetes, containers, and service mesh to enable efficient development across the company.

Work on “shaped” work as well as iterative bug-bash style engagements.

Build and maintain software systems in multiple languages; including Python, Go, and TypeScript

Set design principles and define shared patterns that engineers leverage across the company.

Write structured, testable, readable, and maintainable code.

Support your software throughout its lifecycle, from ideation to production.

Support your teammates by continuing to learn and grow in an environment where failure is a part of learning, and being a novice is celebrated.

What you bring:

Typically has 5+ years of relevant work experience or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities

Demonstrated experience with full-stack architecture and engineering

Experience in shipping mission-critical systems to production

Experience in supporting engineering teams and production systems

A demonstrated ability to to learn new technologies and new programming languages

Experience working with Cloud Providers like Amazon Web Services and writing infrastructure as code.

A passion for personal and professional growth

A desire to operate with freedom and accountability. A willingness to take risks and ownership of those risks.

Excellent asynchronous communication skills. Experience with distributed, remote teams is a plus.
