Who You Are
Brightwheel is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join the Analytics team.
You are enthusiastic about data and bring strong SQL, DBT, and data modeling expertise. You excel at exploring data in response to business challenges and enjoy creating scalable models that support self‑service analytics. You can manage multiple shifting priorities while consistently delivering business value. You are curious, detail‑oriented, and self‑motivated, taking full ownership of high‑impact projects with visibility across the organization.
What You’ll Do
As an analytics engineer, you will build and maintain the data layer across our analytics stack. Your work will span raw data through fully structured, ready‑to‑analyze datasets. You will apply software engineering practices—such as version control, automated testing, documentation, code reviews, and continuous integration—to our data environment. In a typical week, you will:
• Write SQL in DBT to create reliable, scalable, high‑performance data models in a cloud data warehouse that power company‑wide insights
• Partner with business teams and analysts to design and build models that support their analysis and data exploration
• Work with engineers to understand complex existing data structures and design simpler models that improve clarity and unlock insights
• Enhance organizational capabilities by managing data discovery and cataloging tools that help non‑technical users understand business processes
• Troubleshoot, refine, and scale existing data models and reports
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
• 4+ years of experience as an analytics engineer, data engineer, data analyst, or DBA
• 2+ years of advanced SQL development in a version‑controlled environment
• Proven ability to refactor complex SQL for better performance
• 1+ years of hands‑on DBT experience
• Strong data discovery and analytical skills with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical partners
• Experience gathering requirements, designing solutions, and documenting models
• Solid understanding of data quality and testing approaches
• Experience monitoring or troubleshooting ETL pipelines using Airflow or Python
Preferred Experience
• 2+ years building DBT models in a cloud data warehouse
• Experience deploying DBT with CI/CD and automated testing
• Background in developing data warehouses from large transactional systems and third‑party data sources
• Experience building product usage data models and defining product metrics
• Experience modeling and validating financial data
Compensation and Benefits
$137,000–$185,000 per year
Brightwheel is committed to pay equity and offers competitive compensation, including salary, equity, and benefits.
