OVERVIEW
The CDC Foundation is seeking an Epidemiologist to support the Office of Statistics and Evaluation within the Bureau of Community Health and Prevention at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This role focuses on analyzing school health data, including descriptive statistics, data visualization, needs assessments, regression modeling, and related analytic work using school health program and screening data, as well as publicly available data from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The epidemiologist also contributes to the development of school health data systems and data collection tools. Close collaboration with program teams and epidemiologists in the Office of Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing is expected, particularly in interpreting data, translating findings, and sharing results.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Master of Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics
• At least five years of relevant experience in epidemiology or a closely related field
• Strong understanding of epidemiologic study design and statistical methods
• Experience with federal grant reporting requirements
• Proficiency in SAS and/or R for data analysis
• Experience linking multiple data sources
• Knowledge of statistical techniques such as multivariate linear and logistic regression
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or ArcGIS
• Background in public health program data collection and tool development
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to adapt to shifting priorities
• Experience with school health or behavioral health data preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Cleaning and managing school health datasets
• Creating and updating documentation for datasets
• Planning and conducting analytic and evaluation projects, including drafting analysis plans, performing literature reviews, and selecting appropriate methods
• Conducting epidemiologic and statistical analyses using SAS and/or R
• Providing guidance to colleagues on statistical methods and interpretation of results
• Developing data visualizations based on descriptive or analytic findings
• Presenting findings to internal and external audiences, including community groups
• Developing data collection instruments for school-based behavioral health programs as needed
• Performing additional duties as required
SPECIAL NOTES
This position supports a dynamic public health program, and responsibilities may shift as needs change. Any updates to duties will be made with written approval from both the CDC Foundation and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This is currently a hybrid role, though the CDC Foundation may modify the arrangement if necessary.
