Planning Center, founded in 2006, has grown to support more than 85,000 churches worldwide. As an independent, debt-free company with no outside investors, we help churches communicate with their congregations, organize information, and coordinate events. We’re committed to building strong web and mobile products that solve real problems.
Our team values the flexibility of remote work and uses tools like Asana, Slack, Notion, and Zoom to collaborate. We also meet quarterly at our main office in Carlsbad, California, to strengthen our working relationships.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join our Church Center/Publishing product team. This role requires substantial experience (4+ years) with Ruby on Rails and a solid understanding of React. Your team supports Church Center, which currently has 7 million active users, and the Publishing admin application that helps serve it. You’ll develop new features end to end, enhance existing ones, improve performance, and help protect our customers’ data.
Responsibilities include:
– Turning product manager feature ideas into technical specifications
– Implementing specifications through small, clear, well-tested GitHub pull requests
– Collaborating closely with designers and other developers
– Reviewing teammates’ pull requests to improve quality and learn from one another
– Deploying to production with one click
– Investigating customer-reported bugs triaged and researched by our support team
– Diagnosing issues identified through our error monitoring tools
– Improving performance using guidance from Datadog and AWS Performance Insights
– Participating in book and code clubs to learn with and from other developers
Who we’re looking for: the best candidates reflect our core values—engage with humility, invest in the team, do our best work, focus on customer impact, and think holistically while working iteratively. We also believe the strongest teams are diverse, and we’re committed to building an inclusive, supportive environment where you can do your best work.
Hiring process:
1. Apply with a resume and cover letter. Your cover letter should explain your interest in the role, demonstrate your written communication, describe what led you to development, how your experience prepares you for this position, and why you want to join our team. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.
2. If selected, complete an online coding assessment.
3. Participate in an initial phone screen with our Talent Acquisition Specialist.
4. Attend a technical interview with a few developers to discuss your experience and approach and to answer your questions.
5. Complete a career interview focused on your past work and leadership style.
6. If everything goes well, receive an offer.
Requirements:
– Live in the United States
– Be eligible to work in the United States (we are currently unable to offer employment to those with H-1B visas)
– Be willing to travel four times per year to connect with the rest of the team
