About Us

  • We’re building an AI agent for e-commerce: https://zipchat.ai
  • We believe the LLM revolution will transform how humanity shops—we’re figuring out exactly how.
  • We work with hundreds of brands. We’re bootstrapped, “default-alive,” and focused on innovation in the AI/e-commerce space.
  • We have a Shopify app and a WhatsApp app, but we’re built on open standards so we can support all kinds of merchants.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong productivity in our tech stack:
    • Ruby on Rails 💎
    • Hotwire / ViewComponent ⚡
    • REST/GraphQL APIs
    • Experience with Shopify or Meta APIs is a plus ➕
  • Communication:
    • English 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 — able to communicate smoothly
    • Proactive communication—flag issues early, unblock yourself, and collaborate effectively
  • Mindset:
    • Ownership—wants to take responsibility
    • Product mindset—build what people want and ship from 0 to 1
    • “Hackerman” attitude—we work with many third parties, so you should be able to navigate constraints and find workarounds
    • Embrace the chaos—prioritize delivering value to customers over perfectly clean code. Make your mom proud, not your fellow dev friends! 🤘

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Implementing business logic and features
  • Building UI for customers, merchants, and admins
  • Managing integrations with Shopify, Meta, and others

Why Join

  • Get equity in the business
  • Freedom to build in your own way
  • See your impact in real time through a fast feedback loop
  • Join a small startup with big ambitions

Why Not Join

  • We’re not a very social workplace—everyone works independently and syncs as needed (ad hoc)
  • You’ll be expected to ship 🚢🚢🚢

Work Process

  • We aim to deploy to production every day.
    • We truly believe in “ship fast and break things.”
    • And also: “monitor your own work and fix it if something breaks.” 🙂
    • Innovation speed is our top priority. We don’t know what will be useful to merchants yet, so we ship, collect feedback, ship again, and so on.
  • We’re a micro team.
    • We’re currently three founders, one of whom is technical.
    • You’ll work closely with the technical founder.
  • You have flexibility in how you work.
    • Fully remote
    • No fixed working hours (CET is our reference/anchor time)
    • Expected to spend about 30 productive hours* per week on the project
    • No one cares about moonlighting or side gigs—or whether you want to surf during the day—as long as you do your job
  • You’ll write code 99% of the time—minimal bureaucracy.
    • No meetings unless necessary (async chat or Loom is preferred)
    • No formal planning, deadlines, sprints, or methodologies—we pick the next task and try to ship it ASAP
  • You’ll solve problems independently—no babysitting.
    • You’ll be given “shaped” features (not overly specific, not overly vague)
    • You’ll need to figure out how to build them based on our product philosophy
    • No one will manage you—you’ll need to get things done or proactively ask for help

*Productive hours: time spent actually working. We use Toggl to track time.

    • We believe the only way to know if we’re a good fit is to work together
    • We’ll hire you for two weeks and evaluate what we can achieve together
