Rice University’s OpenStax is searching for a well-qualified Ruby on Rails developer to join a team of engineers, researchers, and visionaries working to advance the frontiers of online personalized learning. Tutor brings together online learning platforms, repositories of open educational resources, techniques from cognitive science, and advanced machine learning algorithms to provide a world-leading educational experience for educators and learners.
The primary responsibilities of this position will be to design, develop, test, and maintain research enabling features of the software for OpenStax Tutor and Concept Coach as well as to create software, web or otherwise, to support ongoing cognitive science and machine learning research efforts.
In particular, the developer will be building features within the OpenStax suite that enable the user consent process, enable turning on features selectively to particular cohorts, enable the administration of “criterial assessments” that are designed to measure the impact of different features and algorithms, administer research surveys, and export research data.
Secondary responsibilities will include helping to develop any of the other tools and products within OpenStax.
