The CDC Foundation is looking for an intern to conduct an environmental scan focused on public health staffing and workforce development programs. This work will help shape a Workforce Services strategic plan as the CDC Foundation works to “strengthen the public health system to protect us all.” The Workforce Services team will provide guidance, establish clear project objectives and goals, and hold regularly scheduled check-ins to review progress.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Work 20 hours per week during the summer term.
– Follow the assigned work schedule and arrive at the internship site at the agreed-upon time.
– Meet with the Internship Liaison weekly to discuss project progress and internship goals.
– Adhere to CDC Foundation policies and procedures related to professional conduct and dress code.
– Notify the Internship Liaison promptly and reasonably about any issues that arise, including concerns about limited substantive assignments.
– Provide relevant forms and evaluations to the Internship Liaison, complete as required, and follow up to ensure timely submission.
Primary Activities
– Complete an environmental scan to support the development of a SWOT analysis for Workforce Services public health staffing initiatives.
– Research current challenges affecting the public health workforce.
– Conduct market research on public health staffing providers.
– Identify and develop staffing structures to support the management and implementation of a large workforce program, including reviewing existing CDC Foundation staffing structures and proposing or creating new ones.
– Produce a final report with findings and recommendations and present it to Workforce Services leadership.
Qualifications and Necessary Skills
– Undergraduate or graduate student studying management, public health, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field.
– Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with solid technical abilities, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
– Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
– Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people.
