Summary:
The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Product Manager for MediaWiki. MediaWiki is a free software open source wiki package written in PHP, originally for use on Wikipedia. It is now also used by several other projects of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation and by many other wikis, including this website, the home of MediaWiki. MediaWiki is an extremely powerful, scalable software and a feature-rich wiki implementation that uses PHP to process and display data stored in a database, such as MySQL. Pages use MediaWiki’s wikitext format, so that users without knowledge of XHTML or CSS can edit them easily.
As the Product Manager, you will build roadmaps and goals in collaboration with partners and ensure that progress is made towards those goals. You will work closely with members from many departments including Engineering, Communications, Legal, and Community Engagement. You will also be responsible for ensuring that communications about the team’s work and project status are shared with the Foundation’s various teams and the community in a timely manner.
This is an amazing opportunity that involves coordinating established technologies and collaborative communities around the globe and will require both hard and soft skills. It will be very challenging, demanding, and extremely rewarding!
Description:
Work with key partners across the Foundation to build and execute strategies and goals for the MediaWiki software.
Build and track progress towards achievements for our long term road maps.
Communicate goals, statuses, and findings throughout the development process to internal and external community partners.
Identify blockers and other issues to senior management.
