About Us

dbt Labs was founded in 2016 to empower analysts to create and disseminate organizational knowledge. Since then, we’ve grown to become one of the most respected brands in the analytics industry. Our product, dbt, is used by thousands of companies.

Who we are

At dbt Labs, we have developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics.

Specifically, we believe that:

– Code, not graphical user interfaces, is the best abstraction to express complex analytic logic
– Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers
– Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software
– Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source

It turns out that a lot of other people believe this too! Today there are 9,000 companies using dbt every week, 25,000 practitioners in the dbt Community Slack, and 1,800 companies paying for dbt Cloud. Our customers include JetBlue, Hubspot, Vodafone New Zealand, and Dunelm. dbt is synonymous with the practice of analytics engineering, defining an entire industry. We’re backed by top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter. We recently raised our series D!

In this role, you can expect to:

Work closely with engineers, product managers and the rest of the design team to define and implement the design strategy for dbt Cloud
Create brand new product experiences and enhance existing ones
Build and evolve consistent design systems across product and brand
Develop a solid understanding of the humans who use our product, and how best to design for them
Participate in design reviews and share your work regularly across functional teams
Be a vocal advocate for our users

You are a good fit if you:

Are comfortable working with small, yet rapidly-growing teams
Are opinionated, yet receptive and comfortable being challenged
Are skilled at explaining your work, process, and decisions to a variety of people
Are highly collaborative and love learning from others
Have 5-8 years of experience in product design
Have a high standard of quality and craftsmanship in your work
Prioritize not only employing best practices, but remaining curious about new tools and trends as technology evolves
Enjoy working with both marketing and product to ensure a cohesive user experience across our brand; UX extends beyond the product

You’ll have an edge if:

You’re experienced building design systems/libraries and are excited to do it again
You have experience designing developer-focused and/or data/analytics oriented products
You’ve dabbled in SQL

Compensation and Benefits:

Competitive Salary
Equity Stake
Benefits: Unlimited vacation, 401k w/ 3% guaranteed contribution, excellent healthcare, office and cell/internet stipends, and paid parental leave
