Job Overview: The R&D Department is made up of different disciplines including software and database engineers, quality, technical implementation. R&D designs and develops requested product features, fixes bugs within our platform, provides technical analysis and estimation, ensures successful integration installations, manages and monitors the health of our platform, and develops automation and tooling for efficient and reliable software development processes. R&D works cross-functionally with many other departments in the organization as a team to fulfill Findhelp’s mission of connecting all people in need and the programs that serve them with dignity and ease.
As the Principal Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality engineering for our rapidly developing product. You will be responsible for leading quality improvement initiatives, acting independently to drive progress and providing strategic guidance within the team. This role requires broad expertise, exceptional technical leadership skills, and a forward thinking approach. You’ll work closely within a dynamic team of Quality Engineers to help grow their abilities as a mentor and by exemplifying QE expertise.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Define and drive the overall quality strategy for complex, high-impact systems across multiple products, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical architecture.
- Lead organization-wide initiatives to embed quality into engineering practices, advocating for shift-left testing, automation-first approaches, and proactive risk management.
- Serve as the authoritative technical expert in software quality, setting standards for test frameworks, quality metrics, and automation strategies across teams.
- Partner with engineering leadership to architect resilient systems and influence design decisions for reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Identify systemic quality gaps and implement cross-team solutions to eliminate recurring issues, reduce defects, and optimize delivery efficiency.
- Mentor and coach senior and mid-level quality engineers, elevating the organization’s overall technical capabilities and quality mindset.
- Drive the adoption of innovative testing tools, frameworks, and methodologies, staying ahead of industry best practices.
- Establish and monitor key quality KPIs and metrics across multiple teams, providing actionable insights and reporting to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with product, operations, and security teams to ensure comprehensive testing coverage for functional, non-functional, security, and compliance requirements.
- Influence organizational culture to prioritize quality as a shared responsibility, promoting transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with extensive expertise in test strategy, automation, and quality leadership in agile environments.
- Proven ability to define and implement quality processes at scale, across multiple teams or products.
- Advanced experience designing, building, and maintaining complex test automation frameworks (keyword-driven, Page Object Model, or similar).
- Expert-level knowledge of API automation, including RESTful/SOAP validation, integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong experience coaching engineers and development teams on quality best practices, testability, and proactive risk management.
- Deep understanding of performance, security, accessibility, and reliability testing.
- Proficiency in Python, PyTest, and experience with frameworks such as Robot Framework or Playwright; familiarity with web technologies (JavaScript, React) and cloud platforms (Google Cloud preferred).
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools (Elastic Stack, Kibana, etc.).
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Highly proactive, strategic thinker with a track record of driving measurable quality improvements across complex systems.
$137,600 – $172,000 a year
