Planned Parenthood is the country’s foremost provider and advocate of high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for people of all backgrounds, and is also the nation’s largest source of sex education. With over 600 health centers nationwide, Planned Parenthood organizations serve every patient with compassion, respect, and without judgment, working to ensure fair access to health care. Through health centers, school and community programs, and online tools, Planned Parenthood offers trusted, accurate information that helps people make informed decisions about their health. We do this because we deeply care about helping people live healthier lives.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the United States. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a separate, nonpartisan, nonprofit membership organization that serves as the advocacy and political arm of PPFA. The Action Fund carries out educational, advocacy, and electoral work, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

PPFA and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund are seeking four rising 2L or 3L law student interns for their New York or Washington, D.C. offices. PPFA uses a hybrid work model that requires at least two days a week in the office. This full-time internship lasts 10 weeks, beginning in late May and ending in early August, with final dates set in the spring. Interns report to the Director of Operations in PPFA’s Public Policy Litigation and Law Department (“Lit and Law”), which represents PPFA and its affiliates in matters that affect Planned Parenthood’s mission. The department provides legal guidance and, when necessary, litigates in state and federal courts to safeguard and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.

How to apply:

Applicants should submit a resume, a writing sample of 5–7 pages, and a cover letter describing relevant experience and interest in interning with PPFA.

Lit and Law is hiring interns for both litigation and policy roles. If you are interested in both, please note this in your cover letter. You do not need to submit separate applications.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Priority goes to those submitted by November 24, 2025, with a final deadline of December 5, 2025.

Lit and Law interns work full-time and are paid $22 per hour for 35 hours per week, for up to 10 weeks between late May and early August. Exact start and end dates will be determined. Due to the temporary nature of the role, interns are not eligible for employee benefits.

Purpose:
The Lit and Law team engages in constitutional impact litigation in state and federal courts nationwide. The team also provides strategic legal analysis on federal and state legislation and on regulatory issues at all levels of government.

Engagement:
Policy Counsel Interns collaborate closely with Lit and Law policy counsel on a broad range of policy-related tasks, including legal research, analysis, and drafting memoranda, talking points, and background materials. Interns will also be invited to join discussions with affiliates and partner organizations throughout the summer.

Delivery:
Policy Counsel Interns: The Lit and Law State Policy team advises affiliate health centers on legislative and administrative priorities—both defensive and proactive—and supports state policy work related to sexual and reproductive health care. This includes, but is not limited to, issues involving abortion access, contraception, sexual and reproductive health education, gender-affirming care for transgender people, and Medicaid coverage. The team helps affiliates work to defeat or overturn laws that limit access to comprehensive reproductive health services and to pass laws that improve access. They also provide regulatory analysis and guidance at the state and local levels.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Rising 2L or 3L law students preferred
• Strong research and writing abilities; enthusiasm for working with litigation or policy attorneys; demonstrated commitment to social justice; and a strong interest in reproductive rights and justice, health law, racial and economic justice, or public interest law

Travel: None

This internship is unpaid.
