Overview:
The CDC Foundation is hiring a part-time Epidemiologist III to work 20 hours per week in support of the Arizona Department of Health Services. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in data analysis and be highly skilled in advanced statistical software such as SAS or R.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, informatics, public health, or a related field with four years of relevant experience, or a PhD/DrPH with one year of experience as a public health epidemiologist. Preference is given to graduates from accredited universities or schools of public health.
• Strong understanding of epidemiologic concepts and statistical analysis techniques.
• Solid knowledge of principles and methods used in managing public health programs.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in database management, data analysis, and program evaluation.
• Ability to understand research methods and procedures used to assess population health, medical practices, and principles for health surveillance and epidemiologic investigations.
• Ability to apply critical thinking to identify public health issues and determine the need for further investigation or action.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced skills in statistical software such as SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, or R.
• Basic knowledge of systems, processes, and procedures for infectious and chronic disease surveillance and investigation.
• Experience working within the U.S. health care and public health systems and using electronic public health surveillance databases.
• Ability to interpret data from surveillance and investigations and recommend evidence-based interventions.
• Ability to support an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community.
Responsibilities:
• Perform advanced descriptive and comprehensive analyses of surveillance and epidemiologic investigation data using appropriate statistical methods.
• Collect, analyze, and prepare reports on healthcare-associated infections and outbreak data.
• Plan and conduct epidemiologic studies and outbreak investigations to address practical public health issues.
• Develop quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches for public health practice and program evaluation.
• Communicate recommended interventions or control measures based on epidemiologic findings.
• Design, maintain, and use agency-wide databases to analyze health problems and assess potential impacts.
• Provide scientific and clinical guidance and technical support to public, private, and nonprofit health organizations at the state and local levels.
• Coordinate and conduct program planning activities, including development, implementation, and evaluation, using surveillance and epidemiologic data.
• Assist in designing, managing, and using surveillance systems.
• Serve as a scientific advisor for public health programs or projects.
• Participate in internal and external committees and workgroups relevant to areas of expertise.
Special Notes:
This position is part of a dynamic public health program, and duties may shift as needs evolve. Any changes to responsibilities will require written approval from both the CDC Foundation and the Arizona Department of Health. The role is currently remote, though the CDC Foundation may adjust this arrangement if needed.
