About Synapticure
Founded by patients and caregivers, Synapticure offers nationwide virtual access to expert neurologists, innovative treatments and trials, and comprehensive care coordination and behavioral health support. Working with providers and health plans, including CMS’ new GUIDE dementia care model, the company is committed to improving the lives of people affected by neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS.
The Role
To build the future of neurodegenerative care, Synapticure is developing advanced biological platforms aimed at understanding and treating ALS, FTD, and related conditions at the cellular level. The team is creating a new patient‑derived disease modeling system using in vitro approaches to enhance screening, diagnosis, and the development of therapies tailored to individual biology. While initially focused on ALS and FTD, the long-term goal is to expand across a broad range of neurodegenerative diseases.
The Scientist, Disease Modeling and Phenotyping will thrive at the intersection of laboratory work and computational biology. This full-time, on-site role in Philadelphia, PA, will lead the creation of scalable iPSC-based cellular models and implement phenotypic screening strategies using advanced imaging, transcriptomics, and biochemical methods. The work directly advances new diagnostics and therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.
You will play a key role across both wet-lab and analytical work: designing screening methods, running experiments, and contributing to the analysis and interpretation of complex data. This position offers a rare chance to shape the future of neurodegenerative research while working with a multidisciplinary team of biologists, neuroscientists, clinicians, engineers, and data scientists. For those driven by impactful science, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for patients.
Job Duties
• Develop and run phenotypic screening protocols for complex cell-based assays using high-content imaging and transcriptomic outputs.
• Perform hands-on lab work including iPSC culture, differentiation, assay development, and imaging.
• Analyze and interpret multidimensional datasets, including imaging screens and RNA-seq data.
• Work collaboratively to ensure data quality, reproducibility, and alignment with patient biology.
• Troubleshoot workflows such as cell line expansion, equipment scheduling, and protocol refinement.
• Lead large-scale cellular screens and help evaluate and integrate new technologies.
• Follow laboratory SOPs and support lab operations, including inventory and process standardization, while staying current with relevant disease and stem-cell modeling research.
Requirements
• PhD (or equivalent experience) in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, computational biology, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on lab experience, particularly in iPSC culture, differentiation, imaging, qPCR, and protein assays.
• Interest or experience in computational biology or high-content data analysis.
• Excellent documentation, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and manage multiple projects at once.
• Flexibility and a solutions-oriented mindset suited to a fast-moving startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with transcriptomic or other omics analyses (RNA-seq, single-cell).
• Skilled in microscopy techniques including immunohistochemistry, 3D imaging, and high-content imaging.
• Background in neurodegenerative disease modeling.
• Experience with both 2D and 3D culture systems.
• Knowledge of automation, liquid handling, and high-throughput screening tools.
Our Values
• A relentless commitment to patients and caregivers, delivering exceptional care and always putting patients first.
• Deep empathy and humanity inspired by those living with neurodegenerative disease, approaching each day with compassion, kindness, joy, and hope.
• Curiosity and a desire to understand, listening with humility and communicating honestly and directly.
• A strong sense of purpose, acting with urgency and enthusiasm for the mission.
