Who We’re Seeking
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer I (L3) for our Messaging Team. In this role, you will guide the technical direction of CareMessage’s core messaging platform, which supports patient communication for more than 400 safety‑net healthcare providers nationwide. You will independently lead complex features from concept to deployment, mentor other engineers, and influence architectural decisions that determine how our messaging systems grow and evolve.

This role is highly cross‑functional and includes some team‑lead responsibilities. You will work closely with Product, Customer Success, and Engineering to design and deliver messaging functionality that improves patient engagement and outcomes, taking direct ownership of technical decisions and user‑facing system behavior. You will report to the Director of Engineering and contribute significantly to scaling our messaging capabilities.

Who You Are
You are an experienced backend engineer who excels in fully remote, fast‑paced environments. You have deep knowledge of Ruby on Rails and large‑scale messaging systems and take pride in building dependable communication infrastructure centered on patient needs. You enjoy solving challenges related to delivery optimization, consent management, and AI‑supported messaging. You bring strong technical leadership and a desire to mentor others.

You rely on data to guide decisions and consistently apply a scientific, evidence‑based approach. You contribute thoughtfully to documentation, PRDs, and wikis, using data to support design choices. You thrive in mission‑driven settings and take ownership of your work. Most of all, you are committed to advancing health equity for underserved populations and find purpose in building systems that support that mission.
