Help us make a big green dent in the universe. We’re on a mission to drive the global renewable energy revolution, and we need loads more people to help us make our vision a reality.
Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN) is a leader in sourcing, investing in, and managing a wide range of utility-scale renewable energy assets. As we continue to expand our investment base, we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve.
Since our entry into the renewables market in 2010, OEGEN has achieved remarkable milestones, becoming a leading investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe, the largest investor of solar power in Europe, and a major investor into offshore wind projects. Currently, we manage a global portfolio of over £7 billion in renewable energy assets.
Our operational portfolio consists of more than four hundred large-scale energy-generating companies. We take pride in our wind farms, solar power plants, and upcoming projects in energy storage and hydrogen. To support our ambitious growth plans and long-term ownership of energy assets, we are expanding our team.
About the role
We are looking for a Junior Fund Asset Manager to support the performance and optimisation of a portfolio of renewable energy assets, with a primary focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), alongside exposure to other technologies.
Working closely with Fund Asset Managers, Asset Management teams, and central functions, the successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of asset performance drivers, commercial structures, and fund priorities.
This is a hands-on, execution-focused role with significant exposure to real asset challenges. The successful candidate will take ownership of defined workstreams across performance analysis, issue management, and optimisation initiatives, while building towards full asset accountability over time.
The role will be based in London at least three days per week, with some flexibility for remote working. The role will report to a Fund Asset Manager.
- Support asset profitability and performance across a portfolio of assets, with a primary focus on BESS, including revenue optimisation, availability, degradation management, and risk mitigation.
- Own defined workstreams across issue management, contractor oversight, and optimisation initiatives, escalating where appropriate.
- Support incident management across the portfolio, acting as the first point of coordination on minor issues and supporting senior colleagues on complex events.
- Collaborate with technical, energy markets, and central teams to analyse performance trends, identify risks, and recommend actions to improve asset outcomes.
- Develop strong working relationships with key suppliers (e.g. optimisers, O&M providers, aggregators), building market knowledge to support performance delivery.
- Support asset-level reporting, including internal and external stakeholder updates on operational and financial performance.
- Work with fund management teams on budgeting, forecasting, and valuation processes, including analysis of key drivers and variances.
- Assist in the evaluation and execution of optimisation opportunities, including augmentation strategies, contract refinements, and trading improvements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, tools, and ways of working across the asset management function.
- Provide supporting input across other technologies (wind, solar, etc.) as required, building a broad understanding of the wider portfolio valuations.
- Associate level, typically 2–5 years’ experience in a relevant commercial, financial, or asset management role.
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, or renewables is a strong advantage.
- Strong commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify issues, and develop practical recommendations.
- Understanding of key contractual frameworks (e.g. O&M, optimisation agreements, offtake structures) or ability to develop this quickly.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence working with internal teams and external partners.
- Ability to take ownership of defined responsibilities while working within a broader team structure.
- High numerical and financial acumen, including understanding of key performance and valuation drivers.
- Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn, challenge, and continuously improve processes and outcomes.
