👉 Are you a skilled web developer who loves working with WordPress? Do you get excited about creating new features that millions of pet lovers will use every month? If so, this might be the perfect opportunity for you!

We’re Pangolia — one of the fastest-growing pet companies, aiming to build the world’s largest and most helpful pet brand. Our top websites, including Catster.com, Dogster.com, Hepper.com, and PangoVet.com, attract over 36 million pet lovers each year, and we’re expanding rapidly.

All our media websites run on WordPress, and our Hepper cat furniture e‑commerce brand is powered by WooCommerce.

In this role, you would step in as the lead web developer, handling issues as they arise, keeping our sites secure, and creating new features.

We’re a fully remote company, so you can work from anywhere. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role, but you get to set your own schedule. You’ll become an essential part of a diverse, global team of more than 30 talented people working together toward our mission of building the most helpful pet company in the world.

📌 Note: We believe in working hard to achieve great results, but we won’t micromanage you. We offer flexibility, ownership of your work, real responsibility, and pay for every hour you work. However, with that freedom comes the expectation that you’ll take charge of your responsibilities—and be available if something urgent happens, even during evenings or weekends.

đŸ’» We’re looking for a full-stack developer, but strong backend skills are far more important for this role than frontend design. Our sites already look great, and we have designers—most of the heavy lifting happens in the backend.

💬 Strong communication and teamwork are essential. Since we work remotely, great communication is key to our success.

Overall, this is an excellent opportunity if you’re an outstanding developer who wants to grow quickly while working with top-tier talent.

Major upcoming projects:

1. Make our websites load faster than competitors’ sites while using fewer display ads.
2. Improve the Hepper.com e‑commerce experience: revamp checkout, category pages, and product listings, and ensure all analytics are set up correctly.
3. Tackle the large backlog of tasks that has built up—we need someone who can hit the ground running.
4. Over the next 3–4 months, hire 1–2 additional developers for your team. You’ll need to be enthusiastic about leading, mentoring, and reviewing code.

You will be responsible for:

– Leading the web development department, clearing the task backlog, and communicating effectively.
– Hiring 1–2 developers after the first few months and managing, mentoring, and conducting code reviews.
– Building tools and software that help millions of pet owners each month (such as a puppy weight chart or growth calculator).
– Developing, testing, and maintaining new features for our high-traffic WordPress sites across desktop and mobile.
– Creating and updating technical documentation, development processes, and QA procedures.
– Supporting the content and marketing teams with dev and IT requests, bug fixes, and troubleshooting.
– Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and security updates.
– Proactively safeguarding our sites from hackers, malware, and vulnerabilities.
– Staying up-to-date with new technologies and best practices.

You should have:

– Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, and PHP
– Experience with MySQL and database management
– WordPress development experience (themes, hooks, filters, plugins, etc.)
– Experience with build tools like Webpack or ViteJS
– Experience with Composer and basic knowledge of autoloading, dependency management, and dependency injection
– Experience with SSH and basic terminal usage
– Experience with Git and GitHub
– Strong troubleshooting abilities
– The ability to independently complete projects on time
– Excellent communication skills, especially in a remote environment (Slack is our main communication tool)

The kind of person we’re looking for:

– Reliable and friendly communicator
– Passionate about solving problems with clean, elegant code
– Self-motivated and driven to finish what you start
– Curious and eager to learn new skills and follow modern WordPress trends
– Able to juggle multiple projects and tasks weekly in a fast-paced environment

Benefits and perks:

– Work from anywhere (100% remote)
– Join a dedicated, talented team
– Flexible hours—you set your own schedule
– Company retreats (we recently went to Phuket, Thailand!)
– Biweekly payments
– We’ll pay for co-working spaces if you don’t want to work from home every day
– Paid company retreats
– 21 days of paid time off annually
– A high-growth environment with lots of opportunities
– Room to advance within the company with higher pay and bonuses

A few things about how we work:

– Weekly one‑on‑one Zoom meetings to review goals and progress
– You’ll work directly with the CEO, who trusts you to make smart decisions and won’t micromanage you
– You’re responsible for maintaining GitHub repos, documenting your work, and creating SOPs or technical notes when needed
– Some overlap in working hours is required for urgent requests or team communication
– Priority tasks may occasionally interrupt your main projects; clear communication is expected
– Most of the time, you’ll have uninterrupted focus time for development work

About the team and our culture:

You’ll join a fully remote team of around 80 people worldwide, including veterinarians, marketers, writers, editors, designers, and more. Together, we’re committed to improving the lives of pets and their owners. We’re growing fast while staying true to our values and maintaining a collaborative, friendly culture with room for both serious work and casual conversation.

How to apply:

1. Click the “Apply for this position” button and fill out the form.
2. Complete the interview process.
3. If you’re a potential fit, we’ll give you a paid assignment similar to an internal project.
4. If that goes well, we’ll hire you! You’ll start with a trial period, followed by a final review.
