Lead Engineer

Located out of London, Derby or remotely however 3 days per week will be required at our Derby office (expenses covered)!

As a Lead Engineer at Picsolve, you’re responsible for building, setting the software standards and mentoring a fantastic team of engineers that excel in delivering high quality, efficient media software.

What you really do

  • You consider yourself a technical expert and authority – you’re really experienced with cloud technologies

  • You are part of a cross-functional team composed of Back-end and Front-end Developers, UX designers, Product Owner, and a Scrum Master.

  • You support the entire development team in delivering new functionalities as quickly as possible, meeting both expectations and quality standards.

  • You know when to abstract parts of a solution and when not to

  • You enjoy handling complex projects in a fast-paced fluid environment

  • You keep abreast of technological advances and probably have a glowing GitHub account to show-off your latest personal project

How you do it

  • You take part in the Sprint and participate in all Scrum events, which provide you with knowledge and insights needed to help the team improve and achieve its Sprint goals.

  • You review code, promote best practices, and maintain a high level of craftsmanship as well as a pragmatic culture.

  • You actively coach team members and continuously provide feedback to help them do things a little bit better every day

  • You support the Product team with aligning functional and technical needs.

A day at the office

After grabbing a cup of coffee, the daily stand-up with your team starts. Robert enthusiastically mentions his latest work on the visual design of the new login page. you pair program with David on a story to actually log in via a social media account. After some fiddling around and writing code, you verify it’s done and functionality is deployed to production. Phew, it’s already time for lunch!

In the afternoon it’s time for you to do some coaching and standard setting with John. He wants to have a chat about things he’d like to improve upon, you come up with some actions and you share your experiences on the value of pair programming and how it helped you as a developer. You immediately put it into practice by pair programming with him on his current story.

  • You have a minimum of ten years’ experience as a developer.

  • You have experience in mentoring and coaching other developers.

  • You’re proficient in Java and preferably more development languages (C#, JavaScript).

  • Scrum/Agile comes naturally to you (obviously)

  • You understand and investigate what a user wants and feels.

  • You lead from the front. You guide by example, not just by words.
