We are a not-for-profit company (eHealth International) with a formidable mission: to curb the global epidemic of child/adolescent obesity using technology. Our longtime developer recently died without warning, and we are ardently searching for a new developer.
What we’re looking for and why:
We have two potential projects for the iOS app in 2018, one with Penn State and one with Univ. of Southern California. The large, multicenter trial with the app, currently being organized by CHLA, will launch in early 2019. There’s a fair amount of work to streamline and fully test the app prior to that launch. Also, several new features will be added to the iOS app in 2018, and porting to an Android version is desired (partially complete). A 4-month test trial with the iOS app containing the new features is planned in 2018, using 20 young people, in preparation for the multi-center trial.
We are seeking a developer with experience in iOS app and server-side development and familiarity with the Windows and OS operating systems. Knowledge of Android development is a plus.
What you’ll work on:
An iOS app (http://W8Loss2Go.com) that is a complete intervention for child/adolescent obesity based on the addiction approach. This app is fast becoming an important healthcare tool, as nothing else effectively curbs the obesity problem except bariatric surgery. Development of the iOS app began in 2010 with 278 released versions since then. An Android version has been partially ported. The iOS app is intimately integrated with an AWS secure server with a MySQL database and server-side PHP code for hand-shaking with the app to both receive real-time data from the app and control app functions. The server-side code also implements an extensive data display system for mentors supporting the young people using the app, as well as an electronic medical record for documentation of mentor interactions with app users.
A website for overweight young people and their parents (http://weigh2rock.com) that was launched in 1999 and is very much in need of upgrading. For 10 years the site received upwards of 100,000 visitors per month and still is a key resource for overweight youth and their parents. In 2010 a book, Overweight: What Kids Say, resulted from the 140,000+ archived bulletin board posts and chat room transcripts that kids wrote on the site (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1450534392).
