The Indirect Tax Intern will support the indirect tax team with preparing sales and use tax returns, ensuring state compliance, assisting with the monthly close process, supporting state tax audits, completing property tax filings, maintaining company tax records and files, and conducting research related to use tax filings.
The intern must be available to work 20–28 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CT).
Internship location: This is a hybrid role with two days per week working from the San Antonio, TX headquarters (19122 N US 281) and the remaining time working remotely.
Anticipated start date: February 2025
Internship duration: Four months, with the possibility of an extension.
Skills/Knowledge:
– Basic knowledge of accounting and tax
– Strong time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn new software
Job Complexity:
– Assist with preparing monthly sales and use tax returns
– Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
– Maintain company tax records and files
– Provide audit support by retrieving and organizing requested information from auditors
– Process and verify exemption certificates while delivering exceptional support to customers and the billing team
– Prepare and update statistical and financial reports on an ongoing and as-needed basis
– Conduct tax research as needed
– Organize data in Excel
– Perform tasks under close supervision, with careful review of completed work
Experience:
– Junior or senior student working toward a Bachelor’s degree, or a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree, in accounting or finance
– Tax compliance or accounting experience is preferred
– Additional qualifications include strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to be detail-oriented, highly organized, and communicate effectively in both writing and speaking
