Position Overview
We’re looking for a Head of IT/Security who thrives in the fast pace of an early-stage startup while also being fluent in government security, compliance, and defense-sector requirements. This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves role: you’ll be the architect, the implementer, and the strategist all at once. Your mandate will be to build the foundation for our long-term security posture while solving today’s problems.
Role
- Lead our FedRAMP High efforts in tandem with our security platform partners.
- Identify and mitigate data graduation risks across unclassified, CUI, and classified environments.
- Lead efforts to achieve and maintain DD254 and Facilities Clearance (FCL).
- Build and manage controls aligned with SOC II, NIST, CMMC and other frameworks.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for security due diligence with investors, government stakeholders, and primes.
- Build out and own best-in-class in-person and remote IT security measures ensuring MDM, VPN, and on-premise security are properly configured.
Responsibilities
- Own the company’s IT, cybersecurity, and compliance roadmap.
- Stand up internal IT operations and policies for a growing, distributed team.
- Lead vendor selection, system integration, and audits across environments.
- Drive government compliance initiatives (FedRAMP, CMMC, SOC-II, etc.).
- Manage relationships with government security officers and primes for DD254/FCL requirements.
- Respond to and prepare for security questionnaires, audits, and investor diligence.
- Evaluate risks and implement pragmatic security solutions that balance speed with compliance.
- Act as both an individual contributor (hands on keyboard) and a strategic leader.
Qualifications
- 7+ years in IT/Security, with direct experience in government/defense environments.
- Proven knowledge of FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, CMMC, DFARS, and ATO processes.
- Familiarity with DD254, FCL, and classified environment security requirements.
- Experience scaling IT/security in small or early-stage startups – comfortable being scrappy.
- Strong technical background in networking, cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud, AWS, GovCloud, IL4/IL6), endpoint management, and security tooling.
- Excellent communicator who can brief both engineers and leadership.
$140,000 – $165,000 a year
