Metabase makes it simple for anyone to get insights from their data, whether they’re part of a small startup getting set up quickly or a large enterprise with tens of thousands of users. That’s why so many people love using it.
We bring the polish and ease of consumer products to the traditionally clunky world of enterprise business intelligence. Our open source, opinionated approach gives companies a strong foundation for measuring, analyzing, and sharing their data, and it’s now used by tens of thousands of organizations.
We created Metabase because the available business intelligence tools didn’t feel enjoyable or intuitive to use. We wanted faster, more streamlined ways to explore data and aimed to remove the cold, rigid feel of typical enterprise software. Many others agreed, and today Metabase helps people across countless roles gain access to insights they wouldn’t otherwise have. None of this would be possible without our user interface — and that’s where you come in. We’re searching for someone with sharp product instincts, exceptional frontend abilities, and solid engineering fundamentals to help push our product and industry forward.
We are hiring for multiple Engineering Manager roles.
You Will
• Directly lead a team of engineers and support them in delivering features that delight Metabase users.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Success teams to plan and execute the product roadmap, balancing new features, technical improvements, and bug fixes.
• Coach team members, refine processes, remove blockers, and improve the environment to increase the pace of iteration.
• Stay technical, deeply understand the team’s challenges, and make informed decisions.
• Recruit, onboard, and support top-tier engineering talent.
Skills and Experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with an emphasis on writing to support async collaboration across a distributed, fully remote team.
• 2+ years of engineering management experience or equivalent, demonstrating your ability to build and improve engineering teams and support career development.
• Ability to diagnose issues in project execution and adjust people, processes, or scope accordingly.
• Strong product intuition — able to critically assess product proposals and Figma designs, translate them into engineering requirements across the Metabase stack, and identify and address potential risks.
• Strong technical experience in either Clojure or frontend technologies (React + Typescript).
We’re a globally distributed team (half of us outside the U.S.), working asynchronously across time zones from Thailand to California. We value deep focus time, flexibility in setting your own schedule, and working from wherever you choose. Our culture emphasizes autonomy, growth, and continuous learning. We are deeply user-focused and prioritize building long-term value over short-term fixes. We also raised a $30M Series B to support our long-term vision.
