About The Role
As the U.S. General Manager for Hipcamp, you will be fully responsible for our largest global business unit. You will fully own the P&L and be accountable for the success of a business unit doing tens of millions of dollars in revenue. You will directly oversee a team of 15 Regional Managers, Account Managers, and Onboarding Managers to grow our active Host and Camper community within the US. You will also work closely with Marketing, Product, Finance, Government Relations and other cross-functional organizations to ensure success for your business. As the leader of the US business, you will also serve as the external face of Hipcamp to our Campers, Hosts, media, and the community at large.
Becoming the outdoor experience platform of choice for both Hosts and Campers can be a complex mission that requires vision, passion, perseverance, and creativity. Add to that the fact that we are ensuring the high-quality outdoor experience at scale, you have a really fascinating set of challenges to navigate. Creating an experience in nature is fun, and our users are passionate about the outdoors, so you get to operate in a world that consumers love, plus a platform that allows us to enable Hosts to grow their business and preserve the land.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building a business, is excited about managing the operation of a whole market in 360 degrees, and is obsessed not only with the big picture but also about improving and iterating on processes to obtain operational excellence and the magic to the customer experience. Strategy, marketing, marketplace efficiency, quality, sales and account management, internal product prioritization, P&L ownership, team development, and coaching, and customer experience all sit under the GM’s broad umbrella of responsibilities. Developing a deep understanding of your market and truly being its owner will be critical to your success. What Success Looks Like
Set the strategy and tactics for the US business to hit our ambitious financial goals
Lead teams on execution, including testing new growth levers, determining budget, and rapidly delivering on key priorities
Develop talent and scale the organization based on the needs of the business
Move with urgency. When you see an opportunity, you go for it. Your bias is toward business impact
Excel at developing and maintaining relationships with different types of people and are excited about connecting with Hipcamp’s customers to best serve their needs
Partner with key internal stakeholders across the world (e.g., Country GMs, Marketing, Product, Finance, Analytics) in order to coordinate, execute, and learn
No task is too small, you’re a team player
What Sets You Up For Success
10+ years experience working in strategy and operations roles that are fast-paced, analytical, ambiguous, and execution-focused
Strong leadership, 5+ years of managerial experience leading 10+ team members at a startup
Experience in P&L responsibilities
Excellent analytical instincts. You’re hands-on with data and effectively use data in decision making, execution, and process improvement
You bring energy and hustle to your roles, and don’t limit yourself to “how things have always been done.” You carve new paths to prove that there’s a better way
Proven track record of executing on complex projects under tight deadlines and with ambitious targets
Propensity to ask insightful questions, conduct thorough research, and understand both high-level strategy and ground-level tactical needs
Proficiency in Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Amplitude, Looker, Tableau, Excel) and a baseline knowledge of SQL is preferred
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Comfort working in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment
Comfort leading and collaborating with a distributed team
You are passionate about increasing access to the outdoors

Compensation will be a mix of salary and stock options. We are a 100% remote company post Covid-19.
