What we are looking to do –

  • We have some technical debt that we accumulated – blame it on inexperience, hurry to keep up with user-growth, adding more features, etc. Now we want to fix things and put a rock solid platform for future growth.
  • Oh, and we cannot stop scaling, so we need to re-architect things while meeting demand-growth.
  • And we also need to add new features, to keep our competitive edge.

You:

  • Are a really strong developer, preferably good in PHP (at least familiar, if you are exceptional otherwise).
  • Have experience with database / query tuning and performance.
  • Polyglots get bonus points. Experience across different types of languages gets mega-bonus points. Open source contributors get a red-carpet welcome to the interview.
  • Have some experience working with a legacy system and then incrementally re-architecting things, adding tests, etc.

  • Are a good communicator.
  • Believe in data-driven decisions.
