Rigetti is looking for a Senior FPGA Architect to help develop FPGA-based control hardware for our quantum processors. In this role, you will design FPGA architectures, build high-performance digital logic, and work closely with hardware, firmware, and quantum engineering teams to create scalable, low-latency control systems.
**Responsibilities**
– Develop and improve a custom microprocessor for waveform generation and essential logic to operate a quantum computer.
– Partner with hardware, firmware, and software teams to define architecture, data flow, and interfaces.
– Implement, simulate, and verify designs, including DSP pipelines, control logic, and high-speed I/O.
– Optimize designs for latency, resource usage, and reliability in production.
– Build and maintain testbenches, verification workflows, and CI systems.
– Assist with hardware bring-up, lab testing, and debugging alongside Quantum Engineering on real quantum computers.
– Help shape the long-term roadmap for Rigetti’s control system architecture.
**Requirements**
– Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
– **7+ years of experience** in FPGA design and development for complex mixed-signal systems.
– Experience architecting a new design from scratch.
– Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL, plus experience with an industry-standard FPGA toolchain (Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or similar).
– Strong knowledge of at least one processor architecture area (e.g., memory bandwidth, caches, instruction decoding latency) and/or digital signal processing (e.g., filter design and implementation, IIR, FIR, FFT, polyphase filters, multi-rate systems).
– Experience with high-speed serial interfaces such as PCIe, JESD, and SERDES.
– Strong fundamentals in digital design, including timing closure, CDC, reset strategies, resource utilization, and verification.
– Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams.
**Preferred Qualifications**
– Experience with RF/microwave or mixed-signal systems.
– Familiarity with ASIC design.
– Experience with real-time control systems, data acquisition, or instrumentation.
– Exposure to quantum computing, test and measurement equipment, and the scientific Python ecosystem.
**Compensation**
$155,000–$190,000 per year (base salary). Final compensation depends on factors such as relevant experience, skills, and geographic location. Rigetti offers a comprehensive benefits package including competitive pay, equity, medical/dental/vision coverage, a 401(k), paid parental leave, “rejuvenation days,” and vacation policies aligned with local regulations and industry standards.
Rigetti values diversity and works to build an inclusive culture that attracts and supports innovative thinkers. Because our technology is intended to serve all of humanity, we believe it must reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. Applications are encouraged from women, minorities, and other underrepresented groups.
**About Rigetti**
