We are on the search for a talented Backend Engineer with a positive attitude, experience adjusting to a high-growth work environment, and having a say in how services are designed and built. You’re able to write scalable, future-proof, well-tested code that follows our services’ design patterns. Additionally, you are able to quickly pick up frameworks or concepts that the team decides is the best option for certain services or projects.
You will have an essential role in the Data Department of our small product team consisting of Mo (Backend Engineer & CTO), Josh (Frontend Engineer & Employee #1), Matt (Head of Design & CPO), and Rex (Part-Time Data Engineer) — empowerment, autonomy, and accountability are core values of our team.
- Building data services that consist of multiple scrapers that collect, clean, process, and store many types of local, state, and federal data.
- Work with other engineers on improving existing data services, and implementing features that have been defined in specification documents.
- Having a say within the data team with regards to design, strategy, and implementation of features or projects.
- New Feature Development to Maintenance ratio: 85 – 15.
- 4+ years experience with Python and its frameworks (Django, ScraPy, FastAPI, etc.)
- Experience with web scraping and data collection using Python
- Experience developing and consuming internal and external APIs
- Experience with SOA and creating/maintaining microservices
- Excellent decision-making and time management skills
- Excellent leadership skills
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Ability to bear with our obsession of Notion and Zoom (we can’t explain it either…)
- Familiar with adding third-party integrations to services (APMs, CRMs, etc.)
- Experience with GCP/AWS or similar cloud computing services
- Experience working on a diverse team
- Experience considering the impacts of software on multiple communities, including people of color and people with disabilities
- Experience working in an agile environment
- Excellent in creating custom Slack emojis
- Annual Salary of $85,000-$100,000 — paid in bi-weekly installments
