About Busara
Since 2014, Busara has grown from a small behavioral science lab in Nairobi into a specialized research and advisory organization. Our team of more than 130 staff from over 15 countries has worked on a wide range of projects in more than 50 countries across sectors such as agriculture, health, governance, and inclusive finance. Although our headquarters are in Nairobi, Kenya, we have expanded to include offices in India, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Latin America.
About the FARM team
Busara’s Food Systems, Agriculture, and Climate Resilience Management (FARM) team uses behavioral science to strengthen food systems, boost agricultural productivity, support climate resilience, and promote sustainable livelihoods, especially in the Global South.
The team collaborates with governments, multilateral organizations, NGOs, and private-sector partners to design, test, and scale evidence-based solutions that address challenges like food security, climate adaptation, farmer decision-making, and sustainable consumption.
Analysts on the FARM team help conduct applied research, support data collection and analysis, and turn insights into actionable recommendations for policies and programs.
About the role
The Analyst will assist with research, advisory work, and project execution for ongoing FARM team initiatives. Working alongside Senior Analysts, Associates, and Project Leads, the Analyst will take part in research planning, data collection and cleaning, analysis support, and the development of high-quality project outputs.
This position is ideal for early-career professionals who want to build strong skills in applied behavioral research, project coordination, and client engagement with close supervision.
Core project responsibilities
• Support research preparation, including desk research and literature reviews.
• Assist on several research and advisory projects at once, contributing specific tasks within project workplans.
• Prepare materials, notes, and follow-up documents for internal and external meetings.
• Help interpret research questions and identify relevant data sources alongside senior team members.
• Contribute to drafting reports, presentations, and internal briefs by summarizing findings and identifying key insights.
• Assist with data-related tasks such as sourcing, cleaning, organizing, and conducting basic analyses, in collaboration with data and programming teams.
• Support the design, testing, and administration of quantitative and qualitative survey tools, including formatting, coordination of survey programming, and basic analysis.
• Take part in data collection activities, including coordinating fieldwork, monitoring data quality, and flagging issues to supervisors.
• Contribute to experimental designs, proposals, pitch decks, and literature reviews.
• Help with project onboarding and off-boarding, including documentation and knowledge management.
• Assist with logistics such as preparing timelines, organizing meetings, and tracking deliverables.
• Keep project trackers and timelines updated and alert senior team members of upcoming deadlines or risks.
• Ensure clear communication about project work with internal teams such as operations, finance, and procurement.
• Perform other project tasks assigned by the Project Lead or supervisor.
Analysts are expected to:
• Maintain a basic understanding of project objectives, client needs, and the overall engagement context.
• Show strong attention to detail, meet deadlines, and be open to learning and adapting based on feedback.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the project supervisor.
Core organizational responsibilities
• Participate in Analyst team meetings, goal-setting activities, and team-building sessions.
• Engage in internal training and skills development workshops.
• Support internal initiatives and cross-team activities when needed.
• Contribute to a positive team culture through collaboration, openness to feedback, and professionalism.
• Report challenges or risks to supervisors promptly and constructively.
Knowledge, skills, and experience: minimum requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Behavioral Science, or related fields.
• Experience in climate, sustainability, or agriculture is preferred.
• Experience supporting fieldwork and research studies is required; qualitative and quantitative research or data analysis skills are essential.
• 0–1 year of relevant work or internship experience in research, consulting, policy, or similar fields.
• Basic knowledge of experimental or quasi-experimental research methods.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks well.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
• Curiosity, a growth mindset, and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel to project locations, including within the Global South.
• Basic familiarity with tools such as R, STATA, Python, or other statistical software is an advantage but not required.
Desired qualifications
• Familiarity with randomized controlled trials.
• Understanding of behavioral science principles.
• Experience with large-scale research or consulting projects in countries where Busara has offices.
