About Busara
Since 2014, Busara has evolved from a small behavioral science lab in Nairobi into a dedicated research and advisory organization. Our team of more than 130 staff from over 15 countries has supported a diverse portfolio of projects in more than 50 countries, spanning sectors such as agriculture, health, governance, and inclusive finance. About the FARM team
Busara’s Food Systems, Agriculture, and Climate Resilience Management (FARM) team applies behavioral science to improve food systems, increase agricultural productivity, strengthen climate resilience, and advance sustainable livelihoods, particularly in the Global South.

The team works with governments, multilateral institutions, NGOs, and private companies to design, test, and scale evidence-driven solutions to challenges such as food security, climate adaptation, farmer decision-making, and sustainable consumption.

FARM Analysts support applied research, contribute to data collection and analysis, and help translate insights into practical recommendations for policies and programs.

About the role
The Analyst will contribute to research, advisory work, and project implementation across ongoing FARM team projects. Working under the guidance of Senior Analysts, Associates, and Project Leads, the Analyst will engage in research planning, data preparation, analysis support, and the creation of high-quality project deliverables.

This role is well suited to early-career professionals looking to build strong foundations in applied behavioral research, project management, and client engagement with close mentorship.

Core project responsibilities
• Support research activities, including desk research and literature reviews.
• Assist with multiple research and advisory projects simultaneously, handling specific tasks within project workplans.
• Prepare materials, notes, and follow-up documentation for internal and external meetings.
• Work with senior team members to interpret research questions and identify relevant data sources.
• Contribute to drafting reports, presentations, and internal briefs by summarizing findings and highlighting key insights.
• Support data-related tasks such as sourcing, cleaning, organizing, and conducting basic analyses, in partnership with data and programming teams.
• Assist in designing, testing, and administering quantitative and qualitative survey tools, including formatting, survey programming coordination, and initial analysis.
• Participate in data collection activities, including organizing fieldwork, monitoring data quality, and reporting issues to supervisors.
• Contribute to experimental designs, proposals, pitch materials, and literature reviews.
• Support project onboarding and closeout through documentation and knowledge management.
• Assist with operational tasks such as developing timelines, organizing meetings, and tracking deliverables.
• Keep project trackers and timelines updated and notify senior team members of upcoming deadlines or risks.
• Maintain clear communication with internal teams such as operations, finance, and procurement.
• Carry out additional project duties as assigned by the Project Lead or supervisor.

Analysts are expected to:
• Maintain a foundational understanding of project goals, client needs, and overall project context.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail, meet deadlines, and be open to learning and adapting through feedback.
• Take on other responsibilities as assigned by the project supervisor.

Core organizational responsibilities
• Participate in Analyst team meetings, goal-setting discussions, and team-building activities.
• Engage in internal training and skill-building sessions.
• Support internal initiatives and cross-team efforts as needed.
• Contribute to a positive team environment through collaboration, receptiveness to feedback, and professionalism.
• Report challenges or risks to supervisors promptly and constructively.

Knowledge, skills, and experience: minimum requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
• Experience in climate, sustainability, or agriculture is an advantage.
• Experience supporting fieldwork and research studies is required; qualitative and quantitative research skills or data analysis experience are essential.
• 0–1 year of relevant work or internship experience in research, consulting, policy, or related areas.
• Basic understanding of experimental or quasi-experimental research methods.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage assigned tasks effectively.
• High attention to detail and dedication to producing accurate, high-quality work.
• Curiosity, a growth mindset, and readiness to learn in a fast-paced setting.
• Willingness to travel to project locations, including within the Global South.
• Basic familiarity with R, STATA, Python, or other statistical tools is helpful but not required.

Desired qualifications
• Knowledge of randomized controlled trials.
• Understanding of behavioral science principles.
• Experience working on large research or consulting projects in countries where Busara operates.
