Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Family Office Controller to lead the accounting function across a group of related personal, investment, and operating entities. This role will oversee all bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting, while managing a small team of bookkeepers and serving as the primary financial point of contact for the family office.
This role functions as the financial backbone of the organization — responsible for clean books, strong controls, high-quality reporting, and seamless coordination with external advisors. The ideal candidate is highly organized, discreet, judgment-oriented, and comfortable operating in a multi-entity, high-trust environment.
This is a hands-on leadership role: you will both do and review the work.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Team Management
• Own the accounting function across all family office entities • Manage and oversee bookkeepers • Assign work, set standards, and review outputs for quality and accuracy • Ensure consistent accounting policies and documentation across entities
Accounting & Bookkeeping Oversight
• Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping across multiple entities (LLCs, holding companies, trusts, SPVs, personal entities) • Review general ledgers and ensure transactions are properly recorded and classified • Maintain clean, accurate books in QuickBooks (or similar systems) • Serve as escalation point for complex or judgment-based accounting issues
Cash Management & Controls
• Track and reconcile cash across numerous bank and credit card accounts • Manage intercompany transactions, loans, reimbursements, capital contributions, and distributions • Implement and maintain strong cash controls and approval processes • Proactively monitor balances and flag anomalies
Month-End Close & Reporting
• Lead month-end close across all entities • Prepare and review financial reporting, including:
• Balance sheets and income statements • Cash flow and liquidity summaries • Consolidated and roll-up views • Net worth reporting (as needed)
• Ensure accuracy, consistency, and comparability over time
Trusts, Estates & Advisor Coordination
• Oversee accounting and reporting for trust and estate-related entities • Coordinate with CPAs,
