Summary

Senior Full-Stack JavaScript Engineer (Remote — LATAM or Europe)
Company: POS+ (https://www.posplus.org

)

Location: Fully Remote (we aim for LATAM or Europe time zones to align with the team)
Type: Full-Time Independent Contractor
Tech Stack: Node.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL/MongoDB, AWS

About POS+
At POS+ (https://www.posplus.org

), we create the core payment interface software that enables modern retail, B2B, and service-industry transactions. Our payments architecture is built for reliability: it must ensure perfect data consistency, zero downtime, low latency, and strong offline-first functionality.

We don’t just develop web applications—we build mission-critical infrastructure that businesses depend on to run. Since our platform manages complex real-time event flows, financial calculations, and deep peripheral integrations, code quality is our top priority.

The Reality of This Role (Please Read Before Applying)
We are seeking a genuine Senior Engineer: someone who designs scalable systems, proactively identifies edge cases, and writes code that is easy to maintain.

A note about AI-generated “slop”
We understand the current state of remote hiring. If you rely on ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot to produce boilerplate logic you don’t understand, write functions without real comprehension, or handle architectural challenges you can’t explain, please don’t apply. We have zero tolerance for AI-generated “slop,” unreviewed copied code, or hidden technical debt. We expect senior engineers to have deep foundational knowledge, a sharp eye for code quality, and the ability to explain the reasoning behind every line of code they contribute.

Screening Process
We value your time, so we won’t assign a long asynchronous, 48-hour take-home test (especially one where AI can simply do the work). Instead, our interviews are straightforward and highly collaborative:

1) Initial Intro & System Design (45 minutes)
A discussion of your experience, “technical scars,” and a live virtual whiteboard exercise focused on high-throughput data processing architecture.

2) Live Code Review & Debugging Session (60 minutes)
You will share your screen with our team. We’ll provide a working but poorly written, messy JavaScript/TypeScript codebase. Your task is to review it live—spot security risks, architectural issues, and concurrency problems—then refactor it for long-term maintainability.

What You Will Do
• Architect, build, and maintain highly scalable full-stack features using Node.js, React, and TypeScript.
• Improve complex database queries and schema designs (SQL/NoSQL) to support massive transaction volumes.
• Secure and scale our REST and WebSocket APIs to ensure instant synchronization between POS software (cloud and on-prem) and our cloud infrastructure.
• Identify and remove technical debt early, enforcing strict linting, type safety, and thorough testing practices.
• Work as an independent contractor, collaborating synchronously with our core product and engineering leadership.

What We Look For
• 5+ years of verified professional experience building and running production-grade full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript applications.
• Production experience with asynchronous issues, race conditions, memory management, and event-driven architectures in Node.js.
• Deep knowledge of React state management, rendering optimization, and building accessible, modular UI components.
• Strong English communication skills—you should be comfortable thinking out loud, defending your architectural decisions, and collaborating live over video calls.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and Dockerized environments is a major plus.

What We Offer
• Top-tier USD compensation, calibrated based on your location and senior expertise.
• Direct contractor relationship with clean, streamlined monthly invoicing.
• Real autonomy: no micromanagement. You own your modules, write clean code, and execute.
• Meaningful impact: you’ll work on core systems that affect thousands of merchant locations every day.

How to Apply
