Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted. In a time when true connection can feel increasingly out of reach, our goal is to help foster meaningful relationships and make life feel less lonely. We closely study how people use Hinge so we can help them find love, and we judge our success by one standard: creating great dates. With millions of users worldwide, we’ve become the most trusted place to build real relationships.

About the Role:
Hinge is seeking a strategic, imaginative Editorial Director to shape and lead stories that reinforce our mission of reducing loneliness. You’ll set the editorial vision for how our brand and values show up across our storytelling channels, including the Hinge Newsroom, and you’ll also contribute directly to the systems and content we create.

As a senior leader in communications and marketing, you’ll translate Hinge’s mission, research, product thinking, and partnerships into compelling external narratives. You’ll work closely with teams across product, technology, research, and people to ensure our stories are consistent, accurate, culturally relevant, and aligned with our brand voice and long-term goals. These narratives will clearly define what we stand for and strengthen Hinge’s presence in cultural conversations about dating, relationships, loneliness, and technology.

Responsibilities
• Set and own Hinge’s editorial vision and long-term strategy for owned platforms, ensuring every story reflects our mission, values, and voice.
• Lead and further develop the Hinge Newsroom by overseeing articles, features, Q&As, and narrative storytelling that supports thought leadership, executive visibility, product storytelling, and practical advice for daters.
• Build and manage Hinge’s technology blog with cross-functional partners, producing credible, human-centered stories about our technology, product principles, and innovations.
• Understand how owned editorial storytelling supports earned media, executive visibility, and brand reputation.
• Translate complex technical topics, product choices, and AI advancements into clear, engaging stories that earn audience trust.
• Create culturally relevant content that spotlights Hinge’s work, our daters, and the ideas shaping a less lonely world.
• Maintain strong editorial standards, writing and editing content that communicates Hinge’s perspective with clarity, warmth, and purpose.
• Ensure content builds trust and emotional connection, reinforcing our thoughtful, human-first approach.
• Develop editorial guidelines and frameworks that enable partners across the company to create consistent, on-brand content.
• Edit and refine work from team leads while preserving accuracy and improving storytelling.
• Build a scalable editorial system with Creative, Operations, and Tech teams to enhance blog user experience, workflows, publishing standards, and content structures that support long-term growth.
• Partner across Communications, Marketing, Creative, Product, Social Impact, Legal, and Trust & Safety to uncover meaningful stories, including interviewing internal or external experts.
• Ensure our voice stays consistent across all owned storytelling channels.
• Act as a connector across teams to align narrative, voice, and visuals into a unified storytelling experience.
• Advise senior leaders and technical partners on narrative strategy, story selection, and editorial best practices.

What We’re Looking For
• 10+ years of experience in editorial, journalism, or brand storytelling, ideally within mission-driven consumer brands or communication-focused organizations.
• Proven experience building or leading an owned storytelling platform such as a newsroom or editorial site.
• Strong experience collaborating with Product, Engineering, or technical teams and explaining complex concepts in accessible terms.
• Excellent writing, editing, and narrative development skills, with the ability to make complex ideas clear and emotionally resonant.
• Deep knowledge of how editorial storytelling builds brand trust and credibility.
• Highly collaborative, comfortable working across multiple teams.
• Able to set a vision while also delivering high-quality work hands-on.
• Curious, culturally aware, and skilled at identifying timely stories that advance Hinge’s mission.
• Interest in the changing media landscape and emerging formats that build meaningful audience connections.
• A data-informed storyteller who uses insights to shape strategy and measure impact.
• An empathetic leader who values clarity, craft, and intention.
• Experience turning product and technology principles into compelling, human-centered stories.
