We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Director and Associate General Counsel, Head of Commercial. This role will be pivotal in managing the day-to-day operations of our commercial legal function, supporting the Go-To-Market (GTM) organization on all customer terms and agreements, and supporting the product team on current and new platform offerings. This role will also oversee vendor contract review and onboarding processes in partnership with IT and InfoSec.
What You’ll Do:

    • Strategic Leadership:
    • Shape and drive legal strategies that align with the company’s long-term goals and operational readiness.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team, providing strategic legal counsel to support business growth and compliance.
    • Lead initiatives to align legal frameworks with the company’s scaling objectives.
    • Risk Management:
    • Develop and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies and compliance frameworks.
    • Monitor emerging legal trends and advise on necessary adjustments to maintain compliance while enabling innovation.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Foster strong relationships across departments, including GTM, IT, InfoSec, Finance, HR, and Product teams.
    • Ensure compliance and support product and engineering teams on platform offerings.
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to align legal considerations with business operations.
    • Process Improvement:
    • Lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and streamline contract management.
    • Implement scalable processes to support the company’s growth and operational readiness.
    • Training and Development:
    • Develop and conduct comprehensive legal training programs to promote adoption of key commercial processes across the organization.
    • Mentor and develop the commercial legal team in preparation for growth and scale.
    • Industry-Specific Expertise:
    • Navigate complex legal issues and provide innovative solutions aligned with e-learning and SaaS industry standards.
    • Support privacy and compliance-related legal issues across the business.
What You Should Have:

    • J. D. from an accredited law school.
    • Active license to practice law in the United States.
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial law, with a focus on technology or software industries.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience as in-house counsel.
    • Proven leadership experience managing and developing a high-performing legal team.
    • Strong understanding of GDPR, CCPA, and the EU AI Act.
    • Experience in SaaS, e-learning, or technology industries preferred.
    • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership.
$213,000 – $319,600 a year
The pay range for this position is $213,000 to $319,600 for all US locations. Articulate takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
