LivingSocial is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer with a concrete understanding of how to optimize and maintain scalable databases within scalable infrastructures.

Responsibilities:

• Deploy, configure, troubleshoot and manage multiple, large scale MySQL instances using Chef

• Develop and support MySQL database replication across multiple data centers

• Develop and optimize database design for new applications

• Work closely with the development team on application performance

• Perform capacity planning for organic and new offering growth needs

• Analyze and optimize MySQL database performance

• Develop and support monitoring and alerting for MySQL databases

• Troubleshoot database issues, maintain database systems availability and insure scalability

Core Skills/Qualifications:

• 5 years experience as MySQL DBA or equivalent – Operations engineers with strong MySQL knowledge are welcome!

• Expert knowledge of MySQL and InnoDB internals

• Proficiency with iostat, tcpdump, and other systems tools

• Proficiency with Maatkit, and other supporting software suites

• Experience working in complex 24/7 production environments

• Experience with any of the following technologies/tools: Nginx, HAProxy, Chef, Capistrano, Memcached, Varnish, Redis, Git, Elastic Search, Sphinx, Apollo, PowerMTA, CentOS, OpenStack

• Strong knowledge of most widely-used networking protocols and unix/linux command line tools

• Solid scripting skills

• Hands-on experience with building and maintaining reliable large-scale distributed systems environments

Desired Skills:

• Experience working with Ruby On Rails/MySQL in high-performance environments

• Expert in transaction processing systems.

• Knowledge of Redis, BigTable, HBase, or a similar NoSQL database in production

• Deep knowledge of MySQL HA Solutions

Working Hours and Location:

• Normal working hours are standard Monday through Friday business hours. However, this position also requires participation in a 24×7 on-call rotation and off-hours maintenance windows.
