Aledade, a public benefit corporation, is dedicated to strengthening the most impactful part of the health care system: independent primary care. Since our founding in 2014, we have grown into the nation’s largest network of independent primary care practices, supporting practices, health centers, and clinics in delivering higher-quality care and succeeding in value-based care.

We are seeking a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) to join our team. This individual will lead field and provider education on accurate and complete diagnostic documentation and coding, following ICD-10 CM guidelines, internal standards, and CMS and payer requirements. The CDIS will provide customized training at the national, market, practice, and provider levels; evaluate and optimize full documentation and coding workflows; and conduct chart reviews to identify opportunities for improvement. The role includes periodic travel as well as remote work. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, service-focused, an excellent communicator, and proficient—or ready to become proficient—in Google Suite.

Primary Duties:
• Review charts to find opportunities to improve documentation and coding accuracy. Assess and enhance documentation, billing, and coding workflows. Create and implement plans to improve documentation and coding completeness and accuracy.
• Partner with Aledade practices and providers to continually strengthen documentation and diagnosis coding. Support communication on documentation and coding across internal and external stakeholders. Provide guidance on best practices and risk adjustment.
• Deliver training and education—internally and externally—on clinical documentation and diagnosis coding to support value-based care contracts.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Ability to perform responsibilities without prior CDI training.
• Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field or equivalent experience.
• At least one of the following certifications: CPC, CDEO®, or CCDS-O.
• Three or more years of recent CDI experience or five or more years as a risk adjustment auditor; three or more years of RCM or billing experience.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology.
• Strong understanding of coding guidelines, regulations, compliance, reimbursement, and the role of documentation in risk adjustment.
• Expertise in the CMS HCC Risk Adjustment program and its influence on value-based contracts.
• Ability to identify and convey opportunities to improve documentation and diagnosis capture.
• Experience working with physician practices to drive measurable improvements in documentation and coding accuracy.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated success in outpatient coding and billing.
• Self-driven and solutions-focused.
• Strong grasp of value-based care and how documentation and coding affect risk adjustment.
• Deep understanding of outpatient billing and coding.
• Ability to execute continuous improvement initiatives within value-based contracts.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain documentation and coding impacts to practices and internal teams.
• Ability to collaborate across clinical and non-clinical teams to support documentation improvement efforts.
• Strong references reflecting integrity and accountability.

Who We Are:
Aledade exists to support independent primary care, the most transformative part of our health care system. Since 2014, we have grown into the largest network of independent primary care in the U.S., helping practices and clinics deliver better care and succeed in value-based care. Through value-based contracts with many health plans, we aim to shift away from fee-for-service, strengthen continuity of care, align incentives, and ensure primary care physicians are compensated for keeping patients healthy. If you want to help build a health care system that benefits patients, practices, and society—and be part of a collaborative, inclusive, remote-first culture—you’ve found the right place.

What This Means for You:
At Aledade, you’ll join a creative, mission-driven culture focused on tackling complex challenges through respect, curiosity, and collaboration. You’ll work alongside colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences, all united in their dedication to public health and our mission.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
• Flexible schedules and remote-work options for many roles
• Health, dental, and vision insurance covering up to 80% for employees, dependents, and domestic partners
• 21 days of PTO in your first year
• Two paid volunteer days and 11 paid holidays
• 12 weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents
• Six-week paid sabbatical after six years
• Educational assistance and clinical reimbursement programs
• 401(k) with up to a 4% match
• Stock options
• And more

Aledade celebrates and values diversity. We aim to attract and retain highly qualified individuals who reflect the communities we serve.
