Swyfft is a fast-moving insurance company that totally gets why people don’t normally use "fast-moving" and "insurance company" in the same sentence – and wants to change that.

You know the drill: we need an experienced and flexible operations engineer to help manage every aspect of our runtime systems. Swyfft’s business is cloud-centric (we run on Azure), distributed (nearly everyone in Tech is remote) and data-heavy (we’re in the insurance industry, so of course). As a startup with certain overriding concerns, our infrastructure has grown, shall we say, “organically”, and we need someone who not only can spin up VM’s in Azure, but who knows and cares about the best ways to organize, architect and script them. We need to integrate everything we’re doing into Active Directory, secure our infrastructure, plan for disasters, track software licenses, and figure out how to scale our backend databases. (This is not primarily a DBA position, but the more experience you have with SQL Server in its various flavors, the better.)

Eventually we’ll have a whole team working on this stuff, but you’ll be the first.

Skills & Requirements

An experienced and flexible systems engineer who has shown that they can:

  • Architect, build and support cloud-based systems

  • Write quality documentation

  • Implement best practices around security and disaster recovery

  • Engineer for scalability and uptime

  • Work with developers

You’ll need to have recent hands-on experience with key components of Swyfft’s operational stack:

  • Windows (server and desktop)

  • Azure

  • SQL Server

  • Active Directory

  • Powershell

Oh, and you have to be a reasonably nice person. Life is already too short: we want to work with people we like.
