The Cadasta Foundation had developed a global platform to democratize the data and processes of mapping and documentation for the estimated 70% of the world’s population living without formal or documented land rights. We are seeking a Backend Developer to join our development team to continue to build out the Cadasta platform.
This position will be responsible for maintaining and extending Cadasta’s API, collaborating with others on the Development Team to add features to the Cadasta Platform, and contributing to other Open Source libraries that Cadasta builds upon. Cadasta is build on a variety of technologies including Django, Python, PostGIS, OpenDataKit and is deployed on Amazon Web Services. Ideally, you are passionate about Open Source & APIs, and are looking to thrive in a distributed, collaborative, learning environment. The ability to work in a remote collaborative environment with minimal face-to-face interaction is also key.
As a member of a small team, you’ll have the opportunity to influence and affect the development process beyond the code. Not only will you be building the platform, you’ll be able to contribute to organizational direction and have first hand access & influence at all levels of the organization. Flexibility and a willingness to chip in, collaborate, and learn are key in this role, but that doesn’t mean long hours or work outside your scope. Cadasta prides itself on being a welcoming, people-first environment that’s dedicated to healthy work-life balance. Our ideal candidate for this position is not necessarily someone that knows every single coding language; rather, we’d like to hire an experienced back-end developer with the ability to tackle a variety of technical development tasks, and that enjoys learning new technologies in a collaborative environment. We encourage diverse applicants with non-traditional development career paths to apply – in other words, we’re looking for the right person, not the right combination of buzz words. Traditionally underrepresented populations in tech such as women, People of Color, People with Disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people, etc, we strongly encourage you to apply!
